2000 oldsmobile silhouette bad wheel speed sensor. ABS and trac light on and off constantly. I was told in this model the sensor is built into the bearing or hub?? Is this an easy do it yourself and what tools would I need?

SOURCE: 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette Trac System and ABS Stop working

I think your abs sensor is dirty and needs to be cleaned.

There are many things that can cause your ABS light to come on. Some are serious, so you should never just ignore the light. But there are times when the light comes on and can be met with a simple solution. For instance, a dirty ABS wheel sensor can cause the system to trigger the ABS light during self evaluation. You'll be shocked when you see how much road gunk can accumulate on this very important sensor.
Even if your ABS light hasn't made an appearance, it's a good idea to clean the sensor. A good time to do it would be during brake pad replacement when you have the wheels off anyway
Begin by loosening your wheel lugs, then jack the front of the car up and rest it securely on jack stands. With the car safe, remove the wheel lugs and take the front wheels off.
With the wheel off, turn the steering wheel all the way in, opposite the side your working on. For example if your working on the passenger side, turn the wheel all the way toward the drivers side.

Locate the ABS wheel sensor. Remove the bolts that attach it to the rest of the suspension. You may also need to remove a few bolts to pull the sensor away from the vehicle for cleaning. Follow the line to see if there are more bolts. Remember not to force it or pull too hard. Then along the line theres another two 10mm bolts, that need to be removed, just follow the abs sensor line to get at them.

With the sensor free, take your rag and wipe the sensor until its clean. I prefer not to use any chemicals on the sensor to avoid potential problems. If you need to, use mild soapy solution and rinse well.
Reinstall the sensor in the same manner it was removed.

SOURCE: 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette ABS Light is on and

The first thing i would check is all 4 abs sensors at the wheels. You can do this with a volt meter set on ac voltage and spin the wheel if it generates voltage at all on the meter its good.

SOURCE: drain the antifreeze on a oldsmobile silhouette

Under the bottom of the radiator on the there is a drain ****, you will have to raise the car and crawl under it to see it, be careful to not break it, the screw in plug is fragile, it will be hard to unscrew.

Is the ABS light on as well? If so, you probably have a bad wheel speed sensor at one of your wheels. As long as you can drive without the benefit of anti-lock brakes and traction control, you can ignore it.

I don't understand the whole traction light thing. my car always says trac off-except when it says low trac and slides like it's on ice.

TAKE CAR TO A GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP HAVE THE ABS BRAKES AND TRACTION CONTROL CODE SCAN.YOUR ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WILL COME ON ADJUSTING BRAKE PRESSURE TO AVOID A SKID.THAT WHY LOW TRAC LIGHT COMES ON. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN YOU SEE LOW TRAC LIGHT DRIVING ON DRY ROADS PROBLEM IS IN THE ABS BRAKE UNIT OR BAD WHEEL SPEED SENSOR.

TRAC is an option on ford products your better off without,
as it slams on the rear brakes & cuts out injectors, in the winter,
if the rear wheels slip. Really a bad invention. When you need
full control in snow,it is taken away.

The ABS is the electrical part of your braking system

As with any vehicle problem or check light, you get on your
dash, you should not be using the vehicle

You have the car checked for codes in a couple of days,
then diagnosed & repaired within a week

The abs & trac could be a bad wheel speed sensor,
you have 4 as well as other items in that system.

My Service Vehicle Soon, Trac Off, and Anti-Lock lights all came on at once in my 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue, what does this mean?

Usually it means you have a bad wheel bearing, it has a speed sensor built into it. You will have to have it scanned to pinpoint the problem.

Where is the sensor for the trac system

If we're talking speed sensors, the system uses the same wheel speed sensors that your ABS system uses, but only the ones on the drive wheels. If this isn't what you meant or you have more questions, please get back to me.

Warning light on are trac off, anti-lock, brakes, service engine

You need to have the abs system scanned for codes. You likely have a bad wheel speed sensor on one of wheels.

When I turn the steering wheel the low trac light

The steering wheel position, wheel speed sensors, and ABS systems are all used to provide traction control. You likely have a failure of one or more systems. Scan the ABS system and it will provide codes to help the diagnosis. Wheel speed sensors fail often, and it is likely one or more of these is contributing to the problem.

There is a button (on the shifter console in my alero) that turns oof and on the "trac". I'm not sure of it's purpose but if I push that button, the "Trac Off" light comes on.
