Hood release not working on 1999 Isuzu Trooper, how do I open the hood now?

You can try accessing the latch from underneath the car using a long screwdriver, or try taking the front grill off and have at her.

sounds like you need to replace the cable

those door latches use a very tense spring that engage the closing mechansim. If the handle lifts without any restiction at all,,the sping is missing...if the handle when pulled or lifted offers slight resistance,this means it is very weak and needs replaced. it does not have enough rigidity to release the lock works from the lock pin that is fixed to the inside door facing.

You have probably allready tried this but............. Have someone pull the hood release handle while you press down then lift on the hood a few times. ( down / up / down / up ) Often the mechanism is just dirty or rusty .

Get someone to press down on the hood in the spot where the latch is and pull the lever in the cab.

ive had an isuzu before it always took two people to open one pulling hood release one pulling up on the hood if ya get it up this way tie u somthing on it so u can reach it an do it all from outside

Its behind a little panel just above the hood release

REMOVING THE GRILL IS THE BEST OPTION.

If the cable is not broke have someone pull on the latch inside while you repeatedly press down on the hood. It might take a few tries but it should finally pop. Once it does open spray the latch and linkage with a silicone spray to get it lubricated and do this frequently to prevent it from happening again. If the cable is broke inside at the handle you will have to remove the kick panel, strip the coating back on the cable and pull the cable with a pair of pliers it should release. If the cable is broken under the hood, you will need to remove the grill and use a screw driver to release the latch.
