All R134a connectors are the same. There is a high and low connector, these are different sizes. You either have the wrong "charger" kiit (possibly for R12) or are using it incorrectly.

Danger! Always connect the charge fitting to the low side of the system and use the proper refrigerant. All low side fittings have been the same since around 1993. It looks like you are trying to apply the charge to the high side of the system. THIS CAN CAUSE THE CAN TO EXPLODE. Find the low side charge fitting. The low side will have a wider hose or tubing. A 134A charge kit will have the proper fitting to fit your car. The fitting might be hidden but when you find it the charge connector will fit on it.I recommend you use a charge kit with a pressure gauge. On a hot day it should read about 30-40 psi
if the mechanic by-passed the belt for what reason was it -?- could it be the bearing on the compressor is no good so connecting it up again will not do you any good ,dont the windows open ?? as you do realise that you are using 20% more fuel to run the AC which is not helping global emmisions is it --
If your trying to charge your ac and you have a charging kit the fittings on the charging kit are designed to only fit on the low side quick connect. If that isn't what your trying to do i'd have to go look to describe better.
Easiest way is to purchase a kit from your local parts store. A kit usually comes with one or two 150 ml cans of freon and a hose kit with gauge (plus instructions). The cost should be around $40. The intake valve on the A/C under the hood is a universal valve that the hose connects to, and the other end connects to the cannister of freon. Be careful not to overfill - monitor the pressure gauge - as you can trip the shut off switch and shut down the AC altogether.
