I recently bought a 99 chevrolet cavalier LS 2.2 from the time i drove it home it started heating up,so i replaced the thermostat filled it with anti freeze and it still guage read 195 degrees and fan never kicked in, i took it to a service tech he then bled the radiator with the cap off then cooling fan fuse under hood was okay finally after almost reaching 200 degrees fan kicked on,but would'nt turn off, he said it needed either a radiator flush or a new radiator,i manually I flushed it myself with a money saving way, it not only lowered the temp but it would cut off.finally,i had a certified tech replace the high side and low side ac lines and recharche the system everything seemed fine, ac was cooling, temperature did'nt read more than 195 degrees until I ran it on the expressway for about four miles once exiting guage shot up,i turned off the ac and pulled over i let cool for about half an hour then ckecked cooling level it took two gallons of water,i drove it and it heated up again. i opened the hood and tried the ac now the fan would 'nt even turn on when engaging the ac.so now i tried to run a test wire from the cooling fan fuse that did'nt workand last but not least i unplugged the wiring from the radiator fan ran a three foot wire touched the positive on the battery it engaged the fan, that was enough to make it home, now I need some step by step directions on what i need to do to have this work , or not spend no more money and sale as is.have'nt even had the car for five days and its been a headache financially and physically. It would be blessing from up above if any one would give me the right thing to do with this problem, thank you and God Bless!

If there isn't actually any coolant dripping out of the engine, or rad, or hoses when it is sitting, either running or not, you most likely have a blown head gasket. The easiest way to check is, when it is cool, remove the radiator cap, and start the engine. If bubbles are constantly rising to the top of the rrad, your head gasket is gone, and i can almost guarantee you that is the problem. Sorry.

My 1997 toyota 4runner mysteriously lost most of its fluid on a recent interstate trip. I filled it up with anti-freeze, drove back home 35 miles and it has not used a drop of anti-freeze. Is the...

The thermostat wouldn't use up the fluid, it may leak around it but you would notice that it would have left residue behind. You will know when the thermostat is bad it will start overheating. As for the disappearance that is a bit mysterious unless of course you did overheat the you may have lost the fluid via the reserve.

Sounds as if the head gasket is leaking compression pressures into the cooling system. It seems that this problem has just occurred recently. This can be checked at your rad shop. They have a tool that uses a chemical solution that changes color if there is any engine gases present in the coolant.

Change your fuel filter, it may have gone it's life time and is getting to dirty to let fuel flow properly. Your fuel pump to may be getting weak, if the fuel filter is dirty the pump works harder and heats up and could be over heating the fuel pump relay too. The fuel pump relay i believe is in the glove box behind a panel that say relay, there should be (3) in there and the middle one is the fuel pump's. switch then around after you change the fuel filter and if you get a chance, check your fuel pressure at the shredder valve. Good luck and hope this help's if there is a Auto Zone around you, you can ask to use the fuel pressure gauge to see what fuel pressure you have and they'll have the step by step instructions on how to do it and takes about 5 min to do and will have the fuel filter and step by step to replace that too. Keep me posted, be glad to help.
