Don't think any 1996 cars had these.

they need more tension or they are not aligned properly

if its a misfire code you might have either a bad knock sensor or bad/dirty injectors. get those checked.

did you put new thermostat in the right way ? do you have a 50/50 coolant mixture in rad, 50 % water in rad is what gives you heat, aside from your thermostat, are your heat controls in the proper locations ?

Vacuum leak is most likely cause of failing to start when you have fuel and fire. Also the signal from the coolant temperature sensor affects the computers fuel injection amount. Could be too lean or too rich. When a coolant sensor first starts to go bad the engine will be slow to start the first time. Turn it off and it will start right up.

Try replacing the PCM. Also could be somthing with the Anti theft system.
