Your timing is off , you need to check you timing marks !

run the fault codes it could be a VSS sensor that is not communicating with the TCM to select OD it also reports to the speedo to show speedo reading

THERE IS A RESISTOR THAT IS BURNED OUT . THAT PROVIDES THE OTHER SPEEDS. CHECK FOR THIS RESISTOR IN THE AREA UNDER THE DASH AT THE EVAPORATOR CASE IN THE AREA OF THE PASSENGER FOOTWELL

No. But it does have an antitheft system from Mitsubishi, and the keyfob may be required to unlock the system

The starter is case grounded by the starter mounting bolts. There is no ground wire.

I had a Toyota with an odd-ball starter bolt from the back side of where the starter mounted. It didn't even look like a starter bolt, but sure enough, it was. So keep checking, you may have a third bolt you haven't found.

Check fuses, may have lost you brake light switch as well. Located behind brake pedal.
