Thinkpad 2647 No sound on CD or DVD

Hi,

Received computer to sell in the Op Shop I help manage. I replaced XP Professional, non genuine installed in Laos with genuine. Used to play DVDs. Now no sound otherwise OK on CD and DVD after upgrading from IBM.
Have not used a registry cleaner as computer is too slow to read my flash drive and cannot seem to read it from a CD I made. Any ideas?? Neil Wildey

Call IBM/Lenovo. For about $60, they will provide a complete set of "Recovery CDs" for the ThinkPad. That software will include a DVD-player and the correct sound-drivers. Or, check IBM's "support" web-site -- you may be able to download the correct drivers.

Telephone HP Support, and order a set of "System Restore" CD/DVD disks for that specific model of HP computers.
Probably $20 for the media, and $20 for "overnight" courier.

Any new computer made by HP between 2001 and 2008 is automatically licensed to use Windows XP (either Home or Professional).

Use that set of disks to install a *genuine* copy of Windows, thus replacing the "bootleg" copy that currently is installed.

I have a thinkpad t20 and a 570e, both with

The IBM Recovery Disk that comes with those laptops is set up for Windows 2000, not Windows XP Pro. The answer is No, you cannot use the IBM Recovery Disk for them, if you install Windows XP Pro.

However! You will have a recovery disk, because you will have the Full Installation disk for Each laptop. Windows XP Pro Full Installation Disk.

(Microsoft Users License states "One genuine copy of Windows per One computer" That means you need Two, genuine copies of Microsoft Windows XP Pro)

No audio on my laptop

You have to install the sound driver. If you have the drivers and utilities CD you will find the drivers there or else go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers from there

My ThinkPad A21m will not play Dvd now,Power Dvd XP installed

There can me many solutions,
1. first one and the most possible problem is the malfunctioning of the drivers.to solve this plz uninstall ur DVD ROM drivers from the driver manager and then restsrt it, when you will restart the system it will automatically say that new hardware has been fonded and drivers will be installed automatically just wait for that.Restart again, and u will find it runnig.

2. might be lens of it is cracked, dusty so check tht.
3. Might be u have denied it from reading through BIOS.
4 Also check that you have not taken the aceess rights of users from reading CD/DVDs

IBM ThinkPad T20

This could very well be a serious matter. Start by removing the memory, and trying it with each chip one at a time in each slot. The memory and battery are the only two non serious things that could cause this. If this doesn't work, then the problem is going to be with the power management system on the motherboard. This is a very common problem with these machines. You can have it professionally diagnosed, but I can almost guarantee you they will tell you motherboard replacement. Replacing the motherboard is considerably cheaper than trying to have the power management system repaired.
