Re: HP 1320 won't take the tray designation for 2 and 3 Help

I'm trying to print pdf files which have both legal and letter size .I have installed PCL6, PCL5 and PS.. at one time this printer worked with my windows vista operating system... Now I can't print mixed paper.

I've checked the PDF source box... I've configured the trays to read as..Manual Tray 1 letter, Tray 1 letter, Tray 2 letter and the tray 3 legal..

I was on the phone with HP for over an hour and when she couldn't resolve the problem, her answer was that the drivers aren't compatible with windows vista,, however at one time I was using these drivers on this computer.. I don't know what I did to create this problem other than my recent move.....
I am using adobe reader 8.1..
Help.......

Hello classygirl,

I had this exact same problem and resolved it by downloading the HP LaserJet 1160/LaserJet 1320 North American and Western European Full Printing Solution which can be downloaded from support.hp.com.

Because the 1320 does not have a built-in interface, installing the basic drivers will not work. You must download and install the full 400+mb package.

Hope this helps!

Printer still assumes Tray 3 has Legal size paper when printing Tray 3 even though I changed the settings using the Printer Driver properties. How can I set Tray 3 to Letter size paper?

It is a single tray printer unless you have the optional addition which gives you ONE extra tray. Settings are not changed via Printer DRIVER Settings. DEVICE Settings.

This is a single tray machine with an additional 'straight pass' slot for card stock. As far as I see there is no 'Tray 3'. It is an updated version to my HP 2015d. Your settings are guided from Windows settings.

Printer - Settings - HP Laserjet - Manage - Printer Properties - Device Settings tab. Set to Letter from the drop down list.

You can also use 'Printer Auto Select'.

Also make sure you Word Processing program (MS Word) has it set correctly in Page Setup.

When in automatic tray select, printer will not

I would try reinstalling the Vista driver, then turn the printer off and on and reboot. No guarantees but it's worth a shot if you haven't already done it. Good luck!

My HP Laserjet 1320 won't print even modest sized PDF files. The Printer Window says "Error-Printing" I've had this problem for years. How can I get my printer to print PDF files? I increased the memory...

If you are using a PS (post script) print driver, delete it and install the PCL driver (PCL5 or PCL6 if available). May help, not positive. I have seen lots of pdf printing problems with PS or incorrect model drivers.
These drivers are free to download at "support.hp.com"

Problem with HP 1320 printer

If the paper size in the word document is set to something other than "letter" example if it is set to legal. Then the lite is lit to let the printer user know it is waiting for him to place a sheet of legal paper in the printer, he does so and then presses the green button to start the print job. You can check this by going to "file-page setup" in word and look for the paper size setting.

I HAVE LASERJET 4 PLUS. WHEN I GIVE JOB FOR PRINTING THE PRINTER DISPLAYS A MESSAGE AS PC LOAD LEGAL. PLS HELP ME IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM

The document you're trying to print is formatted for legal size paper, and the tray contains only letter size. if it's a legal size, put legal paper into the MP tray, or override the setting and manually select "letter size" in the printer dialog box.

Cannot print to legal size paper format

There could be a few issues causing this problem.
1. Your document size on the actual document you are attempting to print believes it is letter (which is the default).
To change this setting, you must tell the computer you wish to print on legal paper.

To do this in MS. OUTLOOK:
Put the curser at the top of the page
then...under 'File-Print-Preferences-Layout-Advanced-Paper size-change to legal (from Letter'
-slightly tedious...but follow along and this should help

2. The printer needs to be adjusted to hold the legal paper.
Open up the legal tray to adjust the paper holder to hold the paper snuggly...it slides roughly.

Hope this helps..if you need more assistance please ask...also please rate my solution.
PLEASE note that anything other than a FIX-YA is actually a negative rank...and will lower my success...I didn't make the system...but that is the way it is in FIX-YA.
thanks

Tray output

You should configure TRAY 1 as Legal only.
and Tray 2 as plain letter.

Specially when you specify from what tray/paper type to print.

This can be easily configured from the Printer Properties within the Printers and Faxes section of the Control Panel.

Good luck!
