No dash lights, tail lights, or park lights unless headlight knob switch is pulled to headlight position, then wiggling shaft in and out to find working spot, then all lights, dash, parking, tail, and headlights work. No park, dash or instrument lights in first position pulling knob. interior light position works fine. changed dash switch 4 times, buying from 4 different 3rd party parts house. same problem with every switch. thought maybe wrong replacement had been sold to me. Also, the momentary (spring-loaded switch)headlight bright flasher on the steering column will only work when the knob position is set so that all the lights are burning. The switch on the column will not flash the headlights if the instrument panel and tail lights are not in the On position. checked fuses and found them good....if not, how would it work in the "sweet spot" position on knob.

You did not mention the type of vehicle . However if you check all of your ground wires under the hood and to the frame (undo and shiny clean, replace tight).

1980 buick riviera headlights and running lights wontb turn on turn signals work and brake lights work can you trouble shoot me please

The fact that both are out points to the headlight switch or connector. There's a separate fuse for tail lights but the head and park (front) lights are powered by a fuse link that controls a lot of other stuff you would notice. Reach under the dash and put your hand on the light switch, feel for the wires then feel the other side of the switch for a small button then pull the switch all the way on, depress the button and pull the switch knob and shaft the rest of the way out, now remove the special screw and the switch. I hope this helps. Take care. If you need more help from me use the testimonial button and it will show up in my email.

I need to put new light switch on my 1994 Ford Ranger. I have to wiggle the Switch to make come or stay on

this type of switch is a pull/push on off..remove the lower dash panel and look up under the dash behind the fusepanel and you should see this switch..to memove it is a little tricky and takes both hands ..disconnect the battery first..then pull out the headlight switch to headlights on..under the dash on the switch body is a small button that needs pushed in with a finger of one hand..once pushed and held in.. the switch knob can be entirely pulled out.. should be a metal shaft with a pointed end..behind this knob will be a threaded collar that gets unscrewed counterclockwise to remove it..the ress of the switch will be under the dash and should drop down as far as the wires will permit.. (usually 6 inches or so) disconnect the wire loom connector from the switch body and replace with a new one in reverse order..good luck..

1994 silverado illumination on instrument panel doesn't work, parking lights and tail lights do not work but headlights and brakelights work fine. All fuses are good. Is this a bad dimmer switch?

No. Dash lights being out could be a bad headlight switch, since the dash lights are routed through the headlight switch, not the dimmer switch. Park and tail lights also controlled by the headlight switch.

I was told that it is the rheostat, go to Advanced or O'Reilly's.

What started this mess? tailights, fog lights, brake lights....

The relay has nothing to do with the tail lights, but replacing the switch sounds like a good idea. There's a nut holding it in place, see http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/electrics/switches/switch-headlight/1027524/ to get an idea of the construction. And the price. This is not worth fiddling about unreliable workarounds...
In addition, if fuses 15 and/or 16 burn frequently there might be a problem with the tail light cabling.

Good luck

Headlights work but parking lights dont..

if u have change and check the bulbs and fuses. great. fuses do go lose in a cherokee . move each fuse by hand while the lights are on or the switch is in the on position. if you find the problem this way. just take the fuse out and slightly twist the prong of the fuse and replace it back and ditto. make your daughter say " u d grate dad"
