Our fridge freezer Model TDA531W bought 31/1/11 is housed in the garage, is it safe? Been listening to the Jeremy Vine show on radio this morning and we are alarmed that our fridge freezer may not be safe.

It's highly unlikely you have an issue since the units with the fault were manufactured between 2000 and 2006, in addition to which, your model number doesn't appear in the list of at risk units. That said, for your reassurance:

POTENTIAL BEKO REFRIGERATOR FIRE RISK AND RECALL NOTICE
I would normally give a pointer to articles I have already posted this response on, but as this is such a potentially serious matter, I have posted my entire response here for you.

According to several sources I have checked, including the London METRO magazine ( http://www.metro.co.uk/news/868330-beko-fridge-freezers-fire-risk-warning-issued-to-homeowners-amid-recall ) The MODEL numbers (not serial numbers) affected by the recall are as follows:
CDA543FX
CA5411FFS
CDA752FS
CDA645FW
CA5411FFW
CDA752FW
CDA647FS
CA5411FFX
CDA752FX
CDA647FW
CA7014FFX
CS460FF
CDA648FS
CA7015FFS
CS460FFS
CDA648FW
CA7015FFW
CS460FFSD
CDA653FS
CA7015FFX
CS461FFW
CDA653FW
CDA539FS
CS461FFS
CDA653FX
CDA539FW
CSA4706FFX
CDA659FS
CDA539FX
CSB4606FFS
CDA751FS
CDA543FS
CSB4606FFSD
CDA751FX
CDA543FW

From what I can ascertain, the fridges affected were manufactured between January 2000 and October 2006 (So, after shipping and sitting around in shops, you can probably extend that margin to machines SOLD between 2000 and 2008)

If you go to the BEKO website, there is a link to check your serial number:

https://refsafety.beko.co.uk/

I have to say. Regardless of dates and matching serial numbers, if I had an affected model, I would be checking with BEKO anyway!!

I have bought a logik fridge freezer its in garage which is attached to my house but in the fridge I have frozen tomatoes

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You did not provide a model number, so I can only advise in general terms.

The basic operation of a combo freezer/fresh food section unit are the same.

Generally, the fresh food section does not have a independent cooling source. It gets its cooling from the freezer section. There is a air damper from the freezer to the fresh food section. This air damper is controlled by a thermostat. I suspect that either the thermostat is bad or the damper. Your air damper is wide open.

The other problem is, your unit is not designed to operated in a garage. If you have a warrantee or a service contract it will be cancelled by the service company. Your electrical components can short out or corrode from the drastic change in temperature. Your control board can fail due to static in the air or condensate.

First thing is do not put product all the way back in the refer box. There has to be room for the air to circulate around in the fresh food compartment. If you restrict the flow, the very cold air will concentrate as it comes out of the freezer and "Bingo", you have a really large freezer now...

That is very very likely the fix on this. If not, post it again and we can go to step 2. Lets keep it simple though. This is not rocket science.

kindly,

Jim

Our top mount refridgerator is leaking water into the fridge. The water pours out of a thingy at the back of the fridge that seems to be connected to the defroster. My husband watched it pour out of the...

it happens whenever the fridge goes on defrost. The problem is that the drain hole in the freezer is clogged. so whenever its in defrost, there is no where for the water to go so it flows into refrigerated compartment. you have to remove everything from freezer and remove the back panel. the drain hole is right below the evaporator. use a screw driver to break up the ice, you can use a coat hanger in the drain hole to clear the clog. pouring boiling hot water in the drain hole will help. listen for the water running into the drain pan, once you hear the water running down, you know its safe to put the freezer back together.

Had a fridge freezer in garage. Just found that

more than likely the defroster inside the freezer has gone bad. This defroster is located in the space between the fridge and freezer and activates to defrost the freezer and stop build up of ice in the freezer.. If it is bad the freezer will not keep the fridge nor freezer cold.

you have more than likely ruined the control board on the refrige,a dryer and refrigerator should each be on their own dedicated circuit, they use an enormous amount of current to start, and even if one is running and the other starts thats enough to trip even a 30 amp receptacle, and furthermore extension cord use on these types of appliances even a large gauge cord i.e. 12 ga. that will carry 20 amps is not even a good idea because of voltage drop,as this causes motors to draw excessive current and over heat the motors and reduce appliance efficiency too

Can my kenmore chest freezer be in the garage during hot summers and cold winters in Minnesota?

Jeremy,

You can put a fridge/freezer in the garage. Be sure that the area is level so you don't warp the case which will cause sealing problems with the gasket. Also, clean the condenser frequently as dust and dirt will reduce efficiency.
