Camera will turn on

When first plugged in it shows 88 in the window with the battery charging. It very quickly stops charging and PC shows in window. When unplugged it does nothing as I turn it on. Tried several different ports. One time it looked as if it was going to charge, but in a few seconds it stopped.

My camera won't turn on? Its been awhile!

Try to fully charge the battery, preferably in an exterior charging unit. If the battery doesn't take a charge properly ( depletes quickly) it can stop a camera from starting.

If you already tried that here is a link to some YouTube repair tips:

Turns off with battery charged

This is where new battery would be ideal, from the description indicators are a bad battery. I must admit this is very odd situation, either the calibration is off on what windows is reporting, or the battery current level is dropping so rapidly while it is running that windows is not quick enough to respond to the change leaving the impression the battery is good.

Bought a Nikon Coolpix S3000 (orange) for my daughter after Christmas. It just stopped working one day; wouldn't charge, no lights or come on. The battery it came with is a Nikon lithium ION Battery...

Read page 16 of the manual. Do not use any other charger with this camera. Are you sure you have the battery inserted correctly? When trying to charge, does the green light blink? If so, when it stops blinking and turns off, the battery should be fully charged. Do not attempt to turn the camera on while the charger is trying to charge the battery.

How do you get the camera to charge? I put in new batteries and it still says battery low and shuts off. I have plugged it into the computer and it still won't charge. It won't even turn on.

Some camera will not turn on (Turn on but not take pictures etc) when you plug it in USB, it will only communicate with the camera PC suite software to transfer pictures.

Regarding the battery, if your camera has mobile phones type lithium ion batteries then you can either charge these batteries outside if you have a charger for them or put the battery in camera and plug the camera with its charger that came with it. Its just like charging mobile phone.

If your camera uses AA size (pencil cell) batteries then you will need to either buy Duracell batteries (or any other good Alkaline battery, Duracell is good) and throw them when they stop working or

Buy rechargeable AA size Ni-MH or Li-Ion batteries with charger. Charge the battery with its charger for at least 12 hours before first use or follow the instruction written on battery pack.

I think you are either using normal carbon AA size batteries that are used in clocks or toys, these will not work in digital camera.

My Nikon Coolpix S3000 says battery exhausted, but when I plug into charge it won't charge. Any suggestions?

The rechargeable battery probably needs to be replaced, I would take it to a camera shop let him have a quick look to make sure the charge light is coming on and try a new battery.
