How do I make my ipod touch 4th generation connect to the cable modem via a wireless network connection? (I have a Motorola Surfboard SB5101U) I've already set up the connection, and on my ipod it shows that it connects to the network I've set up, however, whenever I try to connect to safari and browse the web, the ipod says it can't locate the server? what do I do??! I've contacted Apple, and they said it had something to do with the modem. How do I fix it? I'm DESPERATE!

Make sure you have the newest updates on your ipod touch. also I would goto the apps store and try downloading a free brower and see if they will connect if not then it has something to do with the conflicting with the modem as far as maybe too many devices connected and a ip address is overlaping causeing it to glitch out.

if you can access the store on your ipod touch then there is no reason why safari shouldn't work.

another thing you can do is.

try resetting your iPod. Nothing will be lost:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
- Next restore the iPod from backup via iTunes on your computer.
- Lastly. restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod since there may be corruption that is now in the backup.

If you are satisfied, rate my solution with the "thumbs" or (even better) add a testimonial.

also try turning it completely off by holding the power button down and then restarting it as well

I've done that though. :/ I've already tried resetting the ipod, and also resetting network connections, but it hasn't solved anything.

I can't connect to ANYTHING requiring internet connection on my ipod, including the app store, itunes, etc,
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the ip address or something, but I don't know what to do about it.....

I can connect to the wireless network just fine, but safari and all other applications say that it can't find the server.

You should make sure all the Laptops and PC's are set to "use DHCP" or automatically acquire an IP address. Sometimes when you put the CD in for the router it adds a static IP of 192.168.1.1 and it stays there. ALL you need is automatic configure and let the dhcp in the router dish out IP addresses. IT doesnt give out duplicates. Thats where you need to start looking

I'm trying to do that (by clicking the wireless network connection, going to properties, and then to Internet Protocol version 4, TC/IPv4 and then clicking on 'obtain an IP address automatically' for both options), but when I X out of those things, and then click on them again, it goes back to the way it was before - ( i.e. 'use the following IP address....blah blah, for both sections) It doesn't SAVE the changes I made to it.
and the internet still doesn't work on the ipod.
Thanks for trying to help though.

Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem User Guide
The user guide for your Motorola Surfboard cable modem can mean the difference between knowing how to locate and diagnose problems with your connection or staring angrily into a maze of blinking lights.

The user guide provides information on properly setting up your cable modem, understanding the indicator lights and troubleshooting problems before you have to call your Internet Service Provider.Connecting Your Modem

Your Motorola Surfboard cable modem must be connected to your home's coaxial cable connection.
Connect the coaxial cable from your cable outlet into the "Input" jack on your cable modem.

If your modem is wireless, it will connect to any computers and wireless devices in your home through the wireless signal sent from the modem.

Wired Internet connections require that you use an Ethernet cable to connect your cable modem to any supported computers and devices.
Understanding the Front Panel

The front panel of your modem is your key to understanding the status of your cable modem.

The front panel features "Power," "Send," "Receive," "Online" and "Link" lights, each of which displays information about your modem.

The "Power" button will display a solid green light when operating normally and will turn off when there is a problem with the power supply.

The "Send" and "Receive" lights will transmit a solid green or blue color when data is being normally transmitted through your modem and will blink when it the modem is scanning for an upstream or downstream connection.

A solid green "Online" light indicates that you are connected to your Internet Service Provider, while no light indicates that the Internet connection in your home is experiencing problems.

A yellow "Link" light indicates that a computer is connected to your modem with an Ethernet connection while a blue light indicates that a high-speed Ethernet connection is being utilized through the modem.

Configuring TCP/IP

The Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol provides the basic foundation for establishing a local network and a connection to the Internet. The TCP/IP can be configured in the "Control Panel" of your Windows computer. Open the "Network and Sharing Center" from the control panel and double-click the "Manage network connections" option. Right-click the network connection displayed and select "Properties," then select Internet Protocol Version 4 and open the TCP/IP properties menu. Select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS Server address automatically" from the TCP/IP properties menu and click "Ok" to save your TCP/IP settings.
Troubleshooting

Many technical issues with your cable modem can be resolved by power cycling your modem and the computers and devices connected to it.

To power cycle your modem, unplug it from the power supply for 10 to 15 seconds and reconnect it to the power supply.

Restart all of your connected computers and devices while your modem is power cycling. Problems with the "Send" and "Receive" functions can be the result of a poor signal being sent to your cable modem. Tighten the coaxial cable connection to your modem and contact your internet service provider if problems persist.

I have a Motorola SURFboard Gateway SBG6580 modem. I want to use the wireless for my DS lite but it says that I need an WEP key, but I don't know how to enable it. Help!

Your wireless is set up with a password. You need to get that password before you can connect any more devices. From a computer that can connect to the internet go to 192.168.0.1. Then type admin for the username and motorola for the password. I believe from there you click Wireless then click Primary Network. You should see your wireless network name and password from there. I'm getting this from the modems manual here: http://www.midcocomm.com/_files/files/SBG6580.pdf

Motorola SB5100 and linksys router connection

The only thing that you need to setup on your Linksys for it to work with cable is to make sure that DHCP is enabled on the router.  You will need to plug your router into the modem via the ethernet cable and then plug your neighbors pc into a link port on the router (the cable modem plugs into the internet port)  You will also need to follow the reboot procedure.  Power everything off.
1: Turn on the surfboard and wait about 1 minute for the surfboard to make a connection with your ISP (the link light should come on).
2:Turn on your router and wait for your router to sync up with the surfboard . 3: Turn on your computer. Whenever you plug anything into a cable modem, you must recycle power to the modem.  It "remembers" the last device that was plugged into it, so it's memory needs to be cleared.

Losing connection

I assume this is a cable modem? You need to call your cable company and have a trouble ticket created. I worked for the cable company installing cable for quite a while and I bet my paycheck the signal getting to the modem are below specs and that's why the modem gets dropping the internet connection.

Hope this helps.
