Motorola SURFboard SB4200 With Buffalo Airstation

I had 1 pc connected directly to the Surfboard got the internet fine but purchased the Airstation as I wish to use my laptop on the network.

The problem is, if I connect the surfboard to the WAN port on the AirStation, I dont get any connectivity, but can share files within the network, if I connect the ethernet of the surfboard to one of the LAN ports I can get the internet on both the PC and laptop but then lose the ability of a network.

The airstation keeping wanting to connect via PPPOe rather than picking up an address via the surfboard when via the WAN port, how can i set this up so i have both an internal network and the internet?

Cheers

Using the 4200 and the Linksys there is no connectivity and the dhcp does not work properly. IP addresses are not assigned. The laptop and the desktop are denied access to the web.

If it were me, i would return the airstation. then i would buy a linksys WRT54G. They are about 50 dollars. Then use that to set up your wireless network and you will find it quite easy.

I need to connect to my wi fi printer but there isnt ane wep address on the modem could i get one

The WEP address will not be created from your SurfBoard modem. This is something a router will do for you. The modem simply gives you a direct connection to the pipe (web).

Do you have a router?

My surfboard sb4200 just keeps disconnecting from the internet.my OS is vista ultimate.

Most likely your incoming cable signal is weak. If you call your cable company, the on call support tech can sometimes resolve the issue from their end.

If not they can send a technician to your house to measure the signal strength. The tech should first measure the signal strength before it comes into your residence and then again at the input to your cable modem.

The surfboard also has an internal web interface that provides a good deal of information relating to your signal strength and other diagnostic information.

I'm not sure about yours, but the internal ip address of my surfboard web interface is 192.168.100.1

Regardless though, you still need to get your ISP involved to resolve the issue.

How do you change the mtu settings on a sb4200

Hi,

Try to access the Web interface of your router. Access http://192.168.100.1 and look for MTU. I think it is set to 1500 by default.

Password,Username, and SSID

The SB4200 Modem according to the Motorola website does NOT have wireless capabilities. In fact not a lot of cable modems do have wireless built in to them.

That is the modem to which you refered and it does not have wireless. In order to connect your Wii wirelessly you would need to purchase a WIRELESS ROUTER, which most major stores carry varios brands such as Linksys or Netgear.
