The file should be in the sound folder. To access the sound folder connect your tt to your pc then go to my computer open the tt drive and you will see all the files on the tt. If you don't see the files you may have to go tothe control panel, then folder options, click view and make sure you have show hidden files and folders checked save then you will see all the files on your tt. You should be able to download start and shutdown sound files from tt home also.
Hope this helps

I reformated my canada xl 310.i lost all my files.just a screen with a red x.

You've probably backed up the contents of your TomTom disk (when it was connected to your computer) to your computer before you reformatted the TomTom Disk. Or you used the TomTom Home to back up the contents of your TomTom.
Try to copy the back-up files back on to your TomTom device disk and see if it works.

Just curious ... why did you reformat your TomTom disk ? which will erase all the files on the TomTom disk.

Unable to update Tom Tom in windows vista keep getting error 1060 any solutions?

perform the following:
type the following three lines in to the Command window:

%SystemDrive%
cd "%ProgramFiles%\TomTom HOME 2"
xulrunner\HOMERuntime.exe -app xul\application.ini

To avoid having to type these lines every time you start HOME:

Right-click your desktop and choose New > Text Document - enter the commands provided above and then save the file as RunTTH.bat
copy this file to the TomTom HOME 2 folder in C:\Program Files (you will require Administrator rights to do this)
in the Start menu, right click on the TomTom HOME 2 icon.
select Properties
in Target, change "C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME 2\TomTomHOME.exe" to "C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME 2\RunTTH.bat”

The icon will change and HOME 2 should now run normally on your PC.
Please note that links like "Send to TomTom device" or "Add to TomTom" won't work because they rely on TomTomHOME.exe (which this workaround by-passes).
A full fix for this error will be implemented in a future HOME update.

NOTE: for 64 bit Vista change the second line of code to:

cd "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\TomTom HOME 2"

Reset

Start up your TomTom and find the preferences icon. The lips icon has the option of changing the voice, and you can switch back to English from there.

Computer voices

Hi,

Thanks for the acknowledgement.
Sometimes ( mostly in fact ) there is more than one files ascociated with a voice. One file is for the Icon to show you on the tomtom what voice it is ( its the little picture ) . the other file is the voice data itself. So , in that case you would need to download both files to get the voice. Once you have them on your PC you need to copy both files to the "Voices Folder " on your TomTom SD card or Hard Drive ( some tomtomts have a small hard drive fitted ) .
OK , so once you have the files on your TomTom and in the right folder you would then need to switch on the TomTom and go to preferences , then change voice in order to select that voice on your TomTom.

Good luck.

Set up voice John Cleese

Hi,

You need to put the File / files associated with the voice onto your SD card in the Voices folder.

Use an SD card reader and your PC to look on the TomTom SD card. Find the folder called "VOICES". Copy the John Cleese voice files into the "VOICES" folder.

Once this is done put the SD card back in your TomTom. Switch on. When the TomTom starts up , tap the screen and select "Preferences" , then move through Preferences until you find "Lips" icon and under that it will say " Change Voice" . Tap the Lips Icon , then move right or left until you find the required / John Cleese Voice and select that. Your Tom Tom should now give directions with the John Cleese voice.

Please note: Some voices that you can download free of the internet can contain viruses or if you are unlucky they can contain faulty data which can effect the workings of your TomTom.
As a precaution , before you copy or alter or add anything to your TomTom SD card you should make a Backup of your SD card onto a PC. The if anything gets upset on your SD card you can always format it and restore the origonal data.

Good Luck.

TomTom ONE has flashing "X" and picture of TomTom

I found this.

Question: Device shows a flashing cross when turned on.

Answer:

If your device only shows a cross after you turn it on, the TomTom application is not installed or cannot be found.

To solve this, follow the steps below.

Manually remove the TomTom application:
Reset your device.

Connect your device to your computer.

Turn on your device by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.

Do one of the following:
Windows: Click Start > My Computer and then double-click the Removable Disk for your TomTom device.
Macintosh: Double-click the desktop icon for your TomTom device.

Delete all files except the following:
Do not delete any of the folders!
Do not delete the files antitheftw.bmp, lowbatteryw.bmp and splashw.bmp (if present)!

Reinstall the TomTom application:
Start TomTom HOME

Select an option:
I previously updated my device on this computer
I never updated my device on this computer

Click Done and then click Device > Disconnect Device.
Your device should now start up again. If it hasn't started up after 10 seconds, press the On/off button.
