If your windows is not genuine, the background will always return to black. It is a security measure.

Buy it (or crack it which might be illegal depending on your country.)

When it gets to the startup screen it shows some updates then shuts down

If you have your windows installation disk you can try to do a system repair. To do this, turn on you laptop and when the bios starts (usually white text on black background or an acer backgroud) press the F12 key to change boot order. Now select your dvd or cd drive. Windows will load files and then ask what you want to do. Select system repair and follow instructions.

My dell inspiron won't change backgrounds.

If you have Windows 7 Starter for netbooks, you cannot easily change the desktop wallpaper. You have to buy the full version of Windows 7 which will run just fine on your netbook. This is M$ way of making money.

How do you change the background on a mini acer labtop with the new windows 7

If you have the Windows 7 "Starter Edition" or, on a select few subsidized netbooks (through cellphone carriers), you can not change the background.

Any other version of windows 7 can be changed by:
1) Right-click a blank area on the desktop
2) Select 'personlize' from the menu
3) Select 'Desktop Background' located in the lower left area of the Personalization window.
4) Select your background, hit 'Save changes'

Screen is frozen, just blue background with Windows xp logo,

Is the screen frozen BEFORE or AFTER the screensaver activates? If it's after then try doing a scandisk and defrag of the hard drive to clear up errors. Also make sure to go into MY COMPUTER, right click the C: drive and in PROPERTIES runa clean up to delete the temp files that may be corrupted.

Hi, Folks... I have 1994 Sony Trinitron KV-32V15 with this symptom: Turn it on for few minutes, picture showing ok, then collapses to dark brownish backgroud with screen full of horizontal lines...

It sounds like your high voltage transformer is shot and now time to purchase a new one. The cost of repair is too high for the type of tv you own.Sorry for the bad news.

Green backgroud instead of black

sounds like your monitor cable is either bad or has a bent or missing pin on the connector.
