My dell inspiron won't change backgrounds.

Windows XP -Right click desktop, properties -Display tab -Select a background, apply, ok
Vista/7 -Right click Desktop, Personalize -Click on Desktop Background at bottom -Select background image from list or click browse and navigate to image -click save changes
Ubuntu Linux -Right click on the desktop, Change Desktop Background -select and image or click add and browse to picture -click picture and click close

Now, I believe this particular model comes with Windows 7 installed? If that is the case, changing your background is a little bit different than changing it in Xp, but it should be pretty easy once you know how.
1. One way to do so, is simply find a picture you have saved (such as one under "my pictures"), right click it, and select "set as desktop background"
2. The other way to do this is to right click on your desktop and select "personalize." You can select whole themes from here if you want, but if you just want to change the background, click on "Desktop Background" in the lower left of that menu. You can then select photo locations from which to choose backgrounds either using the "browse" button, or just clicking on "picture location." You can then click on the photos that come up to change your background.

Right click on the desktop, click on personisation, and then click on desktop background. Pick from there. Hope it helps

To change the desktop background

1. Right click on your desktop-Select personalize. This will open a window that asks you to select your desktop background
   
   

2. Click the picture or color that you want to use for your desktop background.
   

   If the picture you want to use isn't in the list of desktop background pictures, click an item in the Picture location list to see other categories, or click Browse to search for the picture on your computer. When you find the picture that you want, double-click it. It will become your desktop background.

3. Under Picture position, click the arrow and choose whether to crop the picture to fill the screen, fit the picture to the screen, stretch the picture to fit the screen, tile the picture, or center the picture on the screen, and then click Save changes.

• If you choose to have a fitted or centered picture as your desktop background, you can also frame your picture with a color background. Under Picture position, click Fit or Center. Click Change background color, click a color, and then click OK.

• To make any picture stored on your computer (or a picture you are currently viewing) your desktop background, right-click the picture, and then click Set as Desktop Background.

right click on the empty space on the screen
select property
a window titled "display property" should appear
select the tab: "desktop"
n middle of the right side there should be a button "browse"
after clicking on it a menu window for selection of background file should appear
use it to point to the background file you have
normally background file should be picture files: such ad "jpg", gif. bitmap files

Hi,the first thing you is these,save the picture first on your system,once saved you can now right-click on it and select set as background picture.try these and if you still have issues let me know.

The easiest way to change wallpaper/desktop background is open the picture/photo, right-click and "Set as desktop background".

You can do it from the personalize options available in display settings. Right-click on the desktop, select "personalize" and click "Desktop Background" from the available lists and browse the picture/photo you want to set as desktop background.

For Windows 2000, XP, 2003

Right Click on the Desktop
Select "Properties"
Click "Desktop"
Select any pictures you want or click "Browse" button to install any picture which you want to set as Desktop wallpaper.
Click "Apply" then "OK"

For Windows Vista, 7 or 2008

Right Click on the Desktop
Select "Personalise"
Click "Desktop Wallpaper"
Click Browse button to install any picture which you want to set as Desktop wallpaper.
Click Save Setting
then Close the Window.

Another option is to view the picture you want using the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" then right-click on the image and click on "Set as Desktop Background". This should help you have a new background.

Hi Adrien, the easiest way to set a picture as a Windows background is to open the picture in your web browser and right click on it. A menu box should appear, about half way down you should see an option labeled *Set as Background*. Left click on that option and Windows will automatically use that picture as you background image and tile it to fill your entire desktop. Alternatively if you have Windows XP and use the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer program to display the picture the process is the same except when you right click on the picture the selection will be *Set as Desktop Background*. When you select that option it will do the same thing. If you don?t like the tiled effect right click on the desktop and select properties from the popup menu. In the display properties box that appears click on the Desktop tab, and in the lower right hand corner you will see a field labeled *Position*.
