You could run the chkdsk utility
click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive another way of running the chkdsk utility
click start control panel administrive tools, computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart
do not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer
then defragment your hard drive
also you might download and use this registry cleaner it is totally free to use
http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/
hope this helps

Detect

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((motherboard to your hard drive))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
hope this helps

I bought a 1T 7200 as a second drive. I was sold a sata cable only do i need a power cable also?

All SATA drives need a signal cable and a power cable, but usually these cables already exist inside your computer waiting for you to use provided that your motherboard allows for an additional drive.

Good afternoon. My hard drive stopped working. that is audible during recording and playback. Head knocks and Computer freezes. What should I do? Seagate 80GB,Sata st380815as, firmware 3.acc,serial...

The clicking noise is the reader arm skipping across the platters on your hard drive
a dirty hard first clean all of the dust from your computer using a fine air blower from a high suction vacuum cleaner or a fine air blower from a compressor making sure there is no MOISTURE in the air line then give the hard drive a firm tap on one side to free up the read arm
you could run the check disk utility
click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which willscan for and attempt to repair any bad
sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive this should schedule to occur on restart then defragment your hard drive

My seagate 80 gb sata has crashed yesterday while i was starting the pc. Smoke arrises from the power cable port with sparks. the same problem arrises with changing the cabels.

clean your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor specifically around your central processing unit making sure there is no moisture in the air line

as dust will cause a lot of static which will make a computer overheat and cause lots of problems

hope this helps
