Try pouring a solution of equal parts of white vinegar and water into the machine and let it cook for a while. Several times through the machine will dissolve any calcium and coffee build up and "may" correct the situation. Note this is also the way to clean coffee percolaters and steam irons

On/off button doesn't start flashing for descaling on Illy Coffee Machine X7.1

You will know the machine wants to be descaled when the red alert triangle is blinking (lower right part of control pad)
1) Machine must be OFF and cool in order to descale the machine!
2) Fill the water container to MAX with very warm faucet water.
3) Add a packet of Illy / Urnex Dezcal or similar citric acid based descaler to the water, stirring it in until dissolved.
4) Replace the water container into your Illy Francis Francis X7.1 Iperespresso machine.
5) Place a 1L (minimum) plastic catch bowl (or other suitable container) under the brew head AND frothing wand, which should be pointed toward the center of the stage under the brew head (as in video above).
6) Power the machine ON.
7) IMMEDIATELY depress and hold only the BREW (coffee cup symbol) until the machine emits THREE SHORT BEEPS, followed by ONE LONG BEEP. Release the BREW button after the long beep.
8) Press the BREW button again, as you would when brewing a cup of espresso.
9) The machine will begin to PULSE, and the STEAM BUTTON will blink. The machine will alternate between pulsing water through the brew head opening and the frothing wand. This will continue until the water container is EMPTY. Be ready to remove the water container, and IMMEDIATELY refill it with cool (Brita filtered or distilled is best) water, and replace it as quickly as possible. The machine WILL NOT STOP THE DESCALING CYCLE, so replace the water container as quickly as you can. You will probably need to empty the catch bowl at least once or twice during this procedure, and the water will be VERY HOT, so use caution!
10) The machine will continue to pulse between the brew head opening and the frothing wand.
11) The machine will stop pulsing at some point during this second tankful, and the BREW button will begin to BLINK, with an alternating BEEP between blinking. If there is very little water left in the water container, fill it up with cool water again. Empty your catch bowl if it is full and you haven't already done so! Once everything is back in place, press the blinking / beeping BREW button, which will begin to rinse the machine through.
12) The machine may repeat Step 11 more than once!
13) The machine should now come out of DESCALING CYCLE on its own, with the red POWER button illuminated, along with the blue BREW button being on and solid.
14) Run one or two BREW cycles, with cool, filtered water.
15) Run the STEAM cycle for a few moments, as you would when frothing for a beverage, to ensure no descaler remains in the frothing wand.

In an empty machine,(no coffee, no filter), pour in a 50-50 mixture of water and white vinegar. Allow the machine to start brewing and when a cup or so has run through, stop the brewing process and let it sit for an hour or two. This should dissolve some of calcium buildup in the machine and allow it to complete a full cycle. May have to do this a couple of times to fully clean out the mineral buildup. After cleaning, run a pot of clear water through to rinse out the remaining vinegar.

My top dishwasher drawer won't finish through the cycle. It runs fine on rinse only but not any of the wash cycles. It stops mid cycles, beeps like it has been paused, then tries to start again

Try to feel the temperature of water inside the dishwasher. If it is normal room temperature for the hot wash cycles then it is likely the heater is faulty.
It is not easy to replace unless you have good experience with repairing dishwashers.

One question: have you tried the machine without the porta-filter attached? If it works through an entire cycle without the porta-filter attached, then the porta-filter is clogged. I've lost that special little tool to poke into the hole on the porta-filter, but a fine-tipped needle works just as well. Other pins that I've tried are too thick. Sometimes there's a piece of coffee that has made it through the top part of the filter gets stuck at the single hole that is the exit. Find an appropriate pin and poke around with it, then run WATER only through the filter. If it makes it through a cycle, you've fixed it. This clogging can happen very frequently with too finely ground coffee.

If however, your machine stops and beeps without a filter attached, then there's something restricting the flow inside the machine and your only alternative is vinegar, or similar decalcifier.

Good luck!

I own a saeco Vienna 'limited edition'. When making coffee, the cycle stops when the water pump starts. Coffee light blinks and the red light turns on. It started when i tried to use the steam...

Hi. Sounds like a blocked or jammed brew unit. Remove brew unit and clean. To properly do this, you need to disassemble the brew unit. Canbe quite hard to do. The brew units are usually held together with plastic tabs, and may have to remove some screws to allow these tabs to release units assembly. Dazza REPAIRER

Won't make full pot

Okay, try this, make sure that everything is cool first, then take a turkey baster full of hot water and vinegar and shoot it backwards through the coffee maker...where the water falls on to the grinds. After that, try running either a commercial coffee pot cleaner or just again, vinegar through the brew cycle with no coffee in there. Try it two or three times, there may be calcium buildup in the filter and pump. You could also try that CLR cleaner, but make sure you rinse the pot out really good, and run a few cycles of just water before you drink anything from it.

Hope this makes sense and helps you out!

Incomplete brew

Sometimes you have to do the decalcification two or three times. Then, monthly after that.

Cuisinart Coffeemaker Decalcification Process

Run 2 cups distilled white vinegar and 2 cups water through the system - brew it like it was regular coffee. Then run plain water through the coffemaker to rinse the vinegar out and make sure the decalcification was successful. Repeat as needed. Don't forget to remove the charcoal water filters first.
