The inverter caused a short circuit , the insulation on the lighter socket is earthed out or a cable is burnt and earthed out , disconnect the lighter cable, and check if shorted , if not work back to the ignition switch till you find it.

There's one under the hood, on the right side... labeled Fuse Box and then there's another on the left side of the steering wheel, near the signals, behind the little fold out compartment (which you have to take out to get at the fuses)

SOURCE: cigarette lighter won't work

The front lighter is powered by fuse 24 in the interior fuse panel and the console power points are fuse 7 and 9 in the battery junction box under hood.
If you have a 12V test lamp you can check the socket for power and check the wire to the socket. The socket may be bad.

Tried pluggin this carMD to my 98 tiburon and it didn't do anything....pluggged it to my brothers 03 durango worked fine..

Does your cigarette lighter work? The fuse may be blown. In a lot of cars the ECU and cigarette lighter are on the same fuse. If the fuse is blown CarMD may not be able to communicate with the vehicle.

Trying to find fuses for cigarette lighter

it should be in the fuse box under the hood or under the dash, if you can't find it there it may be at the back of the cigarette lighter itself, if the cigarette lighter isn't working it may be the element, try plugging something else into the socket to see if there is power there....hope this helps.....cheers

My heater and cigarette lighter stopped working in my 1992 accord they both worked for about 5 min the other day but went out again. What could it be?

Check your fuses and relays. Make sure the connections in the back of the lighter are solid, and ensure that your heater core isn't plugged.

Cigarette lighter adapter stopped working

I am not specifically familiar with the wiring on your vehicle, but i would say there is still a blown fuse, or the wiring going to your power-port/lighter has shorted.
