You need to connect the output of the sound card on the PC to the sound input on the TV, sound does not come down the same cable as the video.

Tv hooked up to computer. connected audio cabe to vga audio in. still no sound. help.

I'll need a bit more information on your issue to help you first:
1.) You said: "trying to get sound on the tv to the computer". -- Did you perhaps mean that you're trying to get the audio which comes out of your computer to "play" on your TV?

2.) If I assume correctly, then you have the audio cable connected to the wrong place on the computer.. and possibly on the wrong place on the TV. If you are indeed trying to get the audio from your computer to play through the speakers on your TV, then you need to:

(this is also assuming you're using a "headphone jack-sized" plug on one end, with the other end being the old-style "RCA" left and right channels.. [Left = white; Red = right])

Firstly, the 'headphone jack"-style end of the audio cable needs to be plugged into the "audio out" or "headphones" jack. Sometimes the audio jacks on a computer are color-coded. If this is the case, the green jack is the one you want.

Next, the other end (which again I'm assuming are the left / right channels -- [white / red plugs]) needs to be plugged into the "audio in" on the TV which matches with the same input as your VGA cable is plugged into. Once the cable is hooked up in this way, you should be able to hear all audio coming from your computer on your TV's speakers.

Please let me know if I'm assuming incorrectly on what you're trying to accomplish with the audio. -- I hope I was helpful! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

My TV won't play the sound from my laptop when I hook it up with HDMI cable.

Connect the hdmi (in) to the TV and the computer hdmi. Go into the sound settings (control panel or settings in Windows... preferences on a Mac) and choose the hdmi as the playback device. Also check the volumes on your TV and computer. If you said what OS and what version of that OS you were using, I could be more specific.

How can i hook my pc up to get sound threw tv and dvd w/surround sound

Hello,
You would need the following hardware from radio shack.
Male 3mm jack to RCA into the back of the tv.
Depending on how far the TV if from the computer would depend on size of cable.
Now you tv has surround sound?
Or
You want the computer to produce surround to your tv?
I would go with the RCA idea to give you some starting place to produce sound from the PC to the back of the TV. Now this same idea goes for hooking up mixers, amps, ECT
I hope this helps you in your projects
Thanks for using Fixya.com

Connected samsung TV to PC vi VGA cable as suggested by samsung support. Visual working correctly, no sound output. Tried hooking up standard audio jack leads with l-r splitter to TV to get audio. No...

You need a seperate speaker system when your tv is on vga there is no option to recieve a sound input. In fact if you hook your cables for sound back up to the tv you will probably find that there is sound but on a diffrent input channel. The other option is to use a diffrent type of connection like hdmi if your computer and tv support it which DOES support audio and vido throught the TV.

No sound when hooking up DVi to HDMI...

This is normal, when you go from HDMI to DVI, the sound does not get transmitted. You need a separate cable to go from audio output on the computer to Audio input to the TV. There are speaker (headphone on laptop) jack to RCA audio cables, you could also go with digital audio or even optical out if your computer and TV both have the input and outputs.

Not to computer saavy so please keep it simple. I have a Sony Vaio VGC RA840G desktop with 5.1 surround sound. Also have a Samsung LN46A850 S1F HDTV. Also a home theater system. This is hooked up to cable...

From the looks of the TV manual you have everything right, so it's very odd you're running into this problem.

Have you tried swapping through the sources? I find with one of the TVs we have on display at work that any time I'm having some troubles with it I will change the source from PC to something else, then back to PC.

If that doesn't work then I'd suggest you try reseting the sound settings back to factory default. The instructions are on page 45 of the TV manual. From the TV menu select "Sound", then "Sound Reset", then either "Reset All" or "Reset Sound Mode". I would suggest reseting all.

Last option would be to try using the headphone jack in the side of the TV, though this is a last resort kind of thing since you would have to unplug it every time you wanted to use the cable box.

Hope this helps :)
