Our dryer is gas and we are having issue with it. It runs, spins and such but we aren't getting the heat to dry the clothes. We are not sure if there is a reset switch or something else we are overlooking. The dryer is less than 5years old so I cannot imagine that is "junk". The lady who bought it, before we purchased her house, did not use dryer much since it was just her living in the house. Do you have a manual or something so we can troubleshoot OR do you have any ideas for us? Thank you so much!!!!

The most common cause of a no heat problem on a GAS dryer is worn or blown igniter. These appliances are equipped with a burner assembly with electronic igniters. The following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

I know the link is for a gas range, but the burner assembly functions are nearly identical, as well as, the type igniters used.

If you are having ignition problems it is probably a simple matter of a weak or bad igniter. The burner assembly will ignite automatically as long as the gas valve, igniter coils and igniter are all functioning properly. It can take up to 90 seconds for the burner to ignite. As the igniter ages, you may experience longer ignition times.
NOTE: Just because the igniter glows, does NOT mean it is good. An igniter may still glow, but could be too weak to properly operate the gas safety valve.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites: searspartsdirect.com pcappliancerepair.com appliancepartspros.com repairclinic.com The first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying any parts you may need. Prices vary, so shop and compare.
If your dryer IS heating, but simply is not drying, you may want to inspect the dryer vent ducting and interior cabinet for lint build and/or possible rodent infestation. Mice are notorious for building nests inside the vent ducting of dryers and cloggin them up. If the dryer wasn't used that much, this could be the case.

HINT: Here's a simple test you can try to determine whether or not the vent ducting may be clogged. Remove the dryer hose from the back of the dryer and turn the dryer back on. If the air flow leaving the dryer is forceful and warm, you may have a clog somewhere in the line from the point where it leaves the dryer to where it exits your home. Or, the line is kinked behind the dryer. The vent should be clear with no kinks or clogs. If your vent line runs under a crawl space make sure it is suspended above the ground and has no sags where lint could collect. RULE OF THUMB: The SHORTER and STRAIGHTER the vent duct, the BETTER. Inspect the line throughly. NOTE: It is also recommended that you use the semi-rigid metal type ducting to prevent crushing, kinking, rodent infestation and is heat resistant.

If the air flow is weak, you need to clean the duct work INSIDE the dryer. It is important to keep a dryer checked routinely. I recommend once per season (that's 4 times per year). Dryers are the cause of many house fires. These fires are due to lint accumulations inside the unit catching on fire.

If you have questions, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER (located on a nameplate around the door opening or back of the control panel) and let me know.

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

I have a Whirlpool duet washer and dryer. The dryer is not working well. the ligts come on and it spins but it doesn't dry the clothes, what can the problem be?

Is it heating or not? Is this gas or electric? The first thing to check is your vent and clean the lint filter. Then you should check the heating element and the thermal fuses if it is not heating (assuming electric). If it is heating and you're not getting dry clothes then your venting must have issues. Good luck.

Whirlpool dryer is not drying properly. Have to go through a couple of cycles to dry clothes.

2 things are needed to dry clothes. 1 is good air flow. Check to make sure that the dryer vent is not clogged or partially clogged with lint. Also make sure there are no kinks in the vent hose. With the dryer running you should feel good air flow blowing out of the outside house vent. The 2nd thing a dryer needs heat. Check to see that the dryer feels warm to hot when you reach in to tough the clothes. It is possible that the heat element has partially failed. Another thing to investigate is how well the laundry machine is spinning out the water in the spin cycle. This spin cycle is used to get as much water out as possible prior to placing the clothes in the dryer. The wetter the clothes when they come out of the laundry, the longer it takes to dry them.

Dryer heats clothes but does not dry them

Check the following:

Since you said the dryer heats....

Make sure you have the dryer set to the correct cycle, and not delicate or air only.

Make sure the drying cycle time runs for the set period. If not, the timer may be faulty.

Make sure the dryer is tumbling (the drum is turning). If not, you may have a drive issue like a bad or broken belt, or some other mechanical drive issue.

Make sure the lint screen is clean and the dryer exhaust all the way to the outside of the dwelling is clear and not obstructed with lint or anything else. If you don't feel a pretty good beeze coming out of the wall discharge vent, start looking for a plugged vent.

There could also be an exhaust fan issue with the dryer if the vent line is clear. If this is plugged or not working, the back of the dryer will need to be removed and the cause(s) determined.

Make sure the dryer isn't overloaded and that the clothes aren't too wet when they are placed in the dryer, possibly pointing to a spin dry issue with your washing machine.

AUTO CYCLE TAKES A VERY LONG TIME, HEAT IS OK, GAS DRYER

First thing I would check is the vent. If you have good heat but it is still taking too long, usually it is caused by a vent that is either too long , kinked or clogged. if the dryer is auto dry and not electronic dry then you will need to gauge weather the load needs more or less dry. If it is just taking a long time for the clothes to dry, more than likely the vent. If the clothes are dry before it is done running then it is more than likely a setting issue. Way out of the box .... are your clothes spinning out dry enough in your washer? do they dry in the normal time on timed dry?

I have LG DLE2101W just installed yesterday. It

I found your manual and learned yours is a GAS dryer... the FIRST check is to be SURE the gas valve to your dryer is OPEN.

There is a Troubleshooting section, but NOTHING about no heat?

Know that LOW gas pressure CAN be a issue too!

I did find this:

"If the dryer no longer heats then the heating element may have failed, but it is not the most common cause. The most common cause for a dryer to stop heating is a blown thermal fuse."

The SECOND Link will be VERY helpful...

More help?
Cause 1 Thermal Fuse
Cause 2 Gas Valve Solenoid
Cause 3 Igniter

Everything works but no heat to drying clothes. Gas is turned on and every so often the clothes are kinda warm, but minimum 2 dry cycles to get stuff dry

i would check my exhaust vent here, make sure you have good airflow
let it stand for a while, and start it up let run
are you getting any heat, put you hand tword the back
if you getting dry by very low heat, i would suspect you gas coils, two bullets on the top of the gas valve

Low heat output

A clogged or partially clogged vent . Especially if vents up thru the wall . If it vents straight out , make sure you have good air flow to the outside . Make sure the vent hose has no sharp kinks also . Try drying a load with the vent hose disconnected from the dryer . If clothes dry fine , that tells you the problem is elsewhere . Normally , a dryer either heats or doesn't heat . A heat for a few minutes then stops heating but continues to run complaint ,would be bad coils on the gas valve .

Dryer heats up ands pins, but it takes forever to

Hi, First thing to check is the 4" venting to the outside. Make sure it is free of any lint and that there are no kinks in the hose. If this is a gas dryer, the couls on top if the gas valve could be getting over heated and not opening the gas valve later in the cycle so there will be no heat.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic
