Note the diagram. With the ac on, vehicle in park, engine running, raise the hood, when problem is ongoing, is the compressor clutch engaged? Sometimes, you can tell. The top circle is ac relay. The bottom circle should be magnetic clutch/compressor. At the compressor clutch, top wire in diagram, I believe it is green and yellow, It should have voltage, use a test light to check. It appears to ground through compressor body. Voltage and grounds are important.
The compressor body won't get any voltage unless ac relay is energized. Top circle. The relay has two sides, load side and control side, The load side is that line with arrowhead, the control side is the right side, in the circle. You can see ac fuse above relay. The control side needs voltage and ground.
Another thought, temp door under the dash has a problem? Any applicable trouble codes?

HI, giving the compressor 12v directly is not the way to go as you are bypassing the entire fail safe cercuit. it seem to me that your ac gas is low(can be checked via ac pressure gauges) wich means you have a system leak sumwhere. as soon as your hi/low pressure switch(depending on system) detect inferior pressure to the spesified pressure ,the ac compressor voltage is cut in order to protect the pump from seizure.
Or perhaps your evaporator(small radiator like unit behind dash) can get freezed up caused by either too mutch system gas(check pressure) or poor opperation of the expantion valve. the evaporator then has a sensor(themometer) wich measures evap. temp and if the value drops below spec (usially round about7degrees) the ac compressor will be cut once again(fail safe)
Maybe your ac compressor overheats due to inferior system oil/oil capasity, also note that only some systems incorperate the function of measuring ac pump temp. then again temp to high= fail safe=no12v to ac pump.
Good luck.

SOURCE: a/c problems
This happened to me before a couple of times and it turned out that my husband sat in the passenger seat with his long legs and kicked the rod out of the hole that turns the vent from heat to ac. If you look up under the dash on the passenger side, you will see a gold rod that controls what I would call the damper. If that has come out of the hole that turns the damper from heat to ac, judt put it back in the hole where it belongs and it should start working again. I wish I could ecxplain it clearer. If when you are up under there looking and turn the switch from heat to ac and vice cersa, you should see the rod move, but you won't see it change the damper position.
SOURCE: AC has stopped blowing cold air. Compressor is working. Where is the recharge valve located?
There are two A/C refrigerant lines. The small line is your high pressure line and the larger line is your low pressure line.
Start at the fire wall and follow the "large " low pressure line to the compressor. The low pressure charge port will be some where on that line.
DO NOT try to recharge on the high pressure side ( small line )
Good luck, let me know.

freon level is low. add r134 refrigerant and your problem will be solved.
SOURCE: AC compressor cuts on and off
1. If the AC is making the air cool (i.e. is working) it's normal for the compressor to turn on and off automatically. If the air is not getting cool, you probably did not charge the AC with enough refrigerant. Old cars had sight glasses in the dryer so you could tell if they are charged. New cars (i.e. cars that use R134) do not have sight glasses and you need the proper gauges to recharge them. This should be done by a proffesional. You could cause thousands of dollars of damage to your AC if you over charge it. Also, if it needs to be recharged, it has a leak that must be fixed. Take it to a properly trained auto AC service center.
