Broken hood release cable. How can I open the hood manually?
I have a 2006 Kia Spectra and yesterday my battery died and needed a jump. BUT, when I went to pull the hood release, nothing happened! I could not pop the hood to get to the secondary lock release! How do you open the hood manually? The hood release cable is broken.
I called Kia 24 hr. roadside assistance and the nerve of the guy kept asking me "Are you sure you are pulling the hood release hard enough mame?" Like I didn't know how to work the lever! DUH! They suggested I contact my local dealership. I did and wouldn't you know, the service dept. is closed on weekends! Other than having my car towed to the dealership, I don't know what I can do?
How do you release the hood manually? The release cable is broken and does nothing!

Re: Broken hood release cable. How can I open the hood...
The cable is held in place by a metal bracket. If it cam off the bracket it won't work.
Look behind the part you pull and you will see the wire and the outer part of the cable. The end of the outer part of the cable has a groove neer the end. This groove slides onto a slot that is located just behind the pull latch. Once you see it it will make since on how it should go.
You can also grab the outer part of the cable and pull the inner wire. If you can pull the wire almost out, then it is broken. But the chances of that are very low.

there is a plastic cover like a antitheft you might have to break it off in order to pry the latch but is the cable broken you can grab the end with visegrips and pull the cable with someone tapping on the hood to release it but most likely the spring is broken in the latch under the hood so try these little ideas and good luck
in the car at the handle that broke you can grab the cable with visegrips or pliers and pull on the cable it should release the hood or with a long screw driver under the bumper push the release at the latch
It may be that your hood release cable that runs from the hood release is broken. You'r going to have to try and manually release the hood latch by tripping the release through the grill with something like a long screwdriver. You should be able to identify the latch trigger by following the cable to end. You might also try having push down on the hood while another person tries to trip the latch if the cable isn't broken, but just stuck.
check to see if the cable came loose from the lever, there may even be an adjustment there. if not and the cable is still connected try subverting the lever by using pliers to grip and pull the cable. sometimes the latches just get sticky, try having a buddy bump the hood where the latch is while you manipulate the lever, if this works spray latch with wd-40 and check to see if there is an adjustment you can make at that point
I think that it is unlikely that the cable on a car that new has broken. More likely a sticky latch. Have someone push down and then lift on the hood while you are pulling the release handle.
Hopefully it will open , be sure to lube the latch mechanisim up with something before you close the hood so that it works next time.
2006 kia spectra speedometer not working. Try this, I just did it and it worked. Disconnect both battery cables and touch them together for about 3 seconds, then connect them back to the battery. This causes the main computer to re-load all computer programs. It worked on my kia, speedometer now working. It also worked on my 2004 Chevy Silverado to correct an AC/Heating problem just after installing a new battery. The truck blew hot and cold air at same time with only AC on.
Helps to remove the battery, but small ahbds can do it.
Directly behind the lens is a big round cap ... twist it off. The bulb is held in place with a spring that locks in to a notch in the holder. When handling the new bulb, don't touch the glass. The oil from your skin will cause it to shatter when turned on.
In short no there isn't, however it's most likely your plastic release lever is broken and not the metal cable, you need to open the cover over the release lever, there will be a cable you can pull using a gripper and it will release the bonnet, you can easily replace the plastic llever and it's reletively cheap.
