Check alternator output with engine running.you should have 13.5 - 14.5 volts if not alternator not charging.check alternator wiring to battery feed to alternator.check alternator voltage regulator wiring check alternator fuse make drive belt not slipping.and you have the correct cold cranking amp battery.bad old worn out battery cables will cause charging problems.because old battery cables put high resistance on the charging circuit.if battery cables old as vechicle replace them.

1994 Bravada will not start after sitting idle for about 7 hrs

To clarify - are you saying it does not crank, or does not start ?
lt sounds like you are saying the engine will crank but not start, but then why would you need to jump the battery if that were true ?
If it cranks but does not start, have you checked fuel pressure with a gauge before and after cranking ? The fuel pressure could be low after sitting for a few hours if the check valve in the fuel pump is faulty.

when replacing the starter was there an aluminum heat shield?
It would go between starter and the block. It may have been
discarded earlier and would solve the problem.

Car will not start this morning , i think its because it is very cold outside, and it will not stay idled how can i start my car?

We are in cold environment too so I have some simple tips.

If car has block heater plug in for a couple hours.

If cranking is too slow due to cold - battery must be getting weak. Need a boost / jump start from someone to get it started - or - alternately, hook up a battery charger for several hours. Then let it run awhile to warm up and to charge. Then all charging system should be checked at garage. Battery, alternator for charging ...etc etc.

1989? Fairly old. Carburator or fuel injected? If carburator - take off air cleaner cover and prop open choke butterfly valve at top 1/4" with ex. small screwdriver inserted - then try and start (too much fuel in mix/choke staying shut too much when cold, engine "flooded").

If water or condensation gets in fuel = trouble. Add some premium gas line antifreeze ( pure isopropyl alcohol type is best ). In cold season, try and keep gas tank near full (helps avoids condensation moisture in air part of tank), and use better gasoline, try premium for awhile - costs more but worth it.

A general tune up/check up at garage for cold season may be necessary. Check battery & connections. Clean battery connections, they can get corroded. Check charging system incl alternator. New spark plugs and ignition wires may be a good idea if very old.

In winter, if it gets very cold where you are (below -10 C or below -15 F), consider using a synthetic engine oil - helps make cold cranking easier and lubrication better during cold startup.

Car may just be getting very old and tired. A 1989, if not kept up, may always give some trouble starting when it gets very cold. As everything ages and wears, performance drops - naturally - and cold starting may be difficult on an older vehicle - and you may only be able to improve that only so much ...

best of luck. I think consult with a mechanic or get a nearby friend who is knowlegeable in cars to help you out. May not be such an easy problem to solve. You know ...cars ... that is just the way they are.

Will not start in mornings, have to jump start just to run. Will turn off and start up fine again but have to jump in morning again

Check to see how old the battery is, also has it been run down prior to this problem? If it has one or more of the cells may have gone bad and will cause battery drain. If a new battery doesn't fix the problem, have your vehicle checked for a possible short or battery drain.

Check guages light comes on after short drive while engine is running, and the car died while driving on I-95 the lights started flickering getting dimmer. the radio would turn off when anything else...

It sounds like the Alternator is actually bad.
One great way to determine this:
Recharge the new battery with a trickle charge overnight. Make sure use remove the wires going to the Battery before recharging.
Replace the Battery Wires.
Get the Vehicle Started.
When it has Started: Leave it Running and Disconnect and Remove the Negative side of the Battery. If the Vehicle dies, it is the Alternator that is bad, and needs to be replaced..
The Battery starts that vehicle, and provides nominal power to certain accessories. The Alternator actual Runs the Engine and Recharges the Battery with a low trickled charge.

I would be more suspicious of the fuel system. Have you changed the filters lately? Do you have a 6.2 or a 6.5?

Manual VW Passat 93 wont start

I had the same problem with my 93 Passat diesel, good lights and glow plugs but no effort to turn over. I could hear the relay kicking in the dash (by the drivers window.) I decided to cross the starter terminals and then discovered that the wire was corroded under the solenoid and into the body of the starter. I got a replacement starter and it rolls over fine. Now if I could get ti to pick up fuel... hahahaha
