This is an activity thaty I would NOT suggest you undertake. There are dangerous high voltages present inside the unit even when unplugged. These can be extremely harmful.

In short: NO!!

Hello there. I'm in a desperate need for a spare "ribbon cable" for a COMPAQ TFT5010 monitor. Any information on this matter, would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Best regards.

desperate , why that? are you in uSA>???? locations matter.!!!
its an old monitor , buy a new one, and end this love of old Compaq's
yous posted with on only the word ribbon, why?
the cable on the outside, is a round heavy VGA cable.
so is not a ribbon
so that tells me you took this old monitor apart, right?
and broke or lost a ribbon?
the only parts for this is used off EBAY.

i looked for you, and see none, its old and now rare. 2001 made.
16 long long years ago, and now forgotten by all..
buy a new monitor, its not work spending case on old things.

Hi, I have compaq 7540 monitor 17''. It is showing only part of the screen and when I shake the monitor or plug it displays full screen for a second and gets reverted. Please help on this issue.

Sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere inside the monitor or cable. Try using a different cable (if possible) or trying a friends monitor. If it works fine, then you know that's your problem. CRT monitors are very inexpensive nowadays, and you might be able to find one at a yard sale or thrift store for pretty cheap instead of trying to get it repaired. Hope this helps!

Requires Windows N T version 5.0 or later??? frm where? any free downloading 4 this

I never heard of this ... but there is a lot I never heard of.

Are you telling me that you must run NT (New Technology) (a version of Windows) for this monitor to work? I dont know where you will find this software that predates Windows 2000, unless you find it at E-bay or a company yard sale.

I think Id be inclined to plug it into just about any computer and let windows load a driver for it. It is a VGA monitor, right???

Please let me know what happens.

thanks

It just won't turn on

They are designed to be curious adult proof, hand it to your local 5 year old and it will be apart in no time =)

There are a few screws that tend to blend in on these, plus most of the case is held together with internal clips that will pop apart when enough pressure is applied.

Ok, now onto your power problem. There will most likely be a fuse (it won't look anything like any fuse you have seen before) near where the battery pack connects to the circuit board. It will probably be white in colour and only 1 or 2 mm long. It will look like most of the other components on the board but will have a marking nearby starting with "F" like F101 or something along those lines. The "F" is obviously for fuse.
Check any of those you see with a multimeter for continuity since there will be no physical damage to it.

Hope that helps =)

Power-on Password

You can get around this however it's not to easy. You would have to take the unit apart and locate the BIOS chip, this chip needs to pulled out, aswell as removing the the CR2032 battery which stores time and date on the computer. Leave both of these removed for a few minutes and re-install. This should wipe the password out. Like I said though it's not something that's easily done. Good Luck Hope this helps. L8R
