I have a msi n1996 mother board from MEDION. It beeps around 8 times. The graphics card, HD, DVD power supply all work fine on another board. Nothing appears on screen and I can not break in via the del or the F10 keys, What can I do?

N 1996 vga drivers

Hello msi n1996 is not a genuine msi board. This mainboard was made for HP/COMPAQ as a OEM product, and some other manufactures including the brand: MEDION.
There is no drivers to be found at the msi site.

You have to visit the manufactures site of the pc, not the mainboard.

The HP site is here:

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html

Enter the pc model number, or sku number from the back of the pc.

There could be different drivers for the graphic, depending of the manufacture of the graphic card. It could be a nvidia or a intel driver.

Visit intel here:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/

And run the driver update utility.

Try also to install Speccy:

http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download

To find out what graphic card that are installed on the mainboard.

An easyer way to make the graphic work, is to install a graphic card on the mainboard, in the AGP slot.
Just make sure you have the driver for your windows system.

A second helpfull option could be installing this software:

http://www.driveridentifier.com/

And run the program, for a driver seach.

But you have to create a user profile, and a valid email address, to download the driver.

Hope this will help you

Long beep

Hello here is a list of beep codes:

http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

The problem could be the ram modules, or the graphic card, or the power supply failing.
Try remove the ram module, and insert one, and try to reboot.
Please take antistatic precautions, when working on the mainboard.

Here is the msi homepage:

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/G31M3-L-V2---G31M3-LS-V2.html#/?div=Manual

For downloading the manual.

You need adobe reader to read content.

Good luck

N1996 motherboard 4 fast bios beeps

The beeps actually refer to memory not just RAM, it could be the memory on your graphics card or the cache ram on your processor. Or it could be a compatibility issue between memory sticks.

Hi Purchased Creative 5.1 speakers & one Creative Sound card I want to assemble in MSI N1996 mother board . I not found slot on this mother board.. Did this MB is support for extra sound card. Pls tell...

I found a MSI N1996 but not a N1998. Depending on the card you have, if it is a PCIe x 1 card, you do not have the slot for it. You have AGP and PCI slots. What you could consider is teh USB Sound Blaster card
http://us.store.creative.com/Creative-Sound-Blaster-XFi-Surround-5.1/M/B0044DEDCA.htm
It will support this card however, depending on the model # of the speakers, you may be able to hook to your existing on board sound.

Re seat your RAM and any other cards that plug into the Mother Board such as PCI cards then try starting the computer again. If that doesn't fix it, then you can uninstall devices and try to boot until you find the culprit, as those beeps you hear sound like hardware error beeps that can be caused by faulty hardware (even keyboards or mice) that plug into your computer. Eliminating all removable hardware should help you determine whether it's an add on component or if the Mother Board itself is bad.
