The star mount broke off from my Chamberlin Liftmaster Professional 1/3 horsepower. The chain broke away from the motor unit.
Can I buy the same unit and keep the accessories in tackt?

It sounds like a door sensor problem for one. If the main light flashes 10 times when you try to close the door the sensors are probably not pointed at one another. Tweak them a bit and check to make sure the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have bad sensors. The chain can be adjusted at the trolley.
If your door is stuck in the open position you need to see if the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. If it is, loosen the chain enough to remove the tension from the trolley. Run the motor until the door closes and then locate the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit. Turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.
My 15 year old system broke down due to a worn screw drive. While parts like this can be replaced, it takes a bit of guts to work inside the motor, and the circuit board. I chose to buy a new unit. New units come with all the parts ... so you don't really save much, Depending on how old the system is, the old accessories may or may not work. Even though my old 1/2 H.P. motor was a chain drive, when I bought a new screw drive the mounting parts on the ceiling and on the wall above the door were compatable. So while you get the new parts in the box, you can use the old parts if it saves you time. I was not able to save the electic eye components as the number of wire leads was slightly different in the new model. It took me and my son about 2 hours to get the old one down and the new on up. Hope that helps. (by the way, the new chain drive is quicker and quieter)
