Sega Mega-CD Console Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 01, 2011

Hi I have a Sega Megadrive 1 & Mega CD 1. It has wroked for years from new but it has got a problem within the last week. When turned on the conosles comes on as normal and you see a good and correct image. When you place go to put the CD disc in start to play the Mega CD console starts and you hear the disc drive start up but within a few seconds it stops and this happens regardless for what disc is put in. I have got hold of a Sega lens cleaner kit and it has made no different. The sounds from the console sound normal and the start up demo the controllers work as normal. The Megadrive console works when run by its self so I am stuck. Do you have any idea of whats happening? is it fixable and if so what do I do? Thanks and kind regards Simon.

Well, Sega's aren't known to be long lasting, but if it isn't an issue with the console itself you could try checking all of your cords, assuring they are plugged in good and tight to both your console and screen. Faulty cords can easily be overlooked. If your discs aren't working, but you're hearing the music from different ones and no picture, it sounds like an issue with one of your video jacks, so make sure everything is properly plugged in.
Failing that, bring it to a retro gaming shop to have it looked at or test it at someone else's place.

Sega mega drive with av cable

if your screen is black and you unplug the cable from the megadrive , does the screen go blue ? if so the machine is sending out an a/v signal to the tv and your problem lies with the game cartridge contacts being dirty or the contacts in the slot on the console being dirty , try cleaning the contact strip with some electrical contact cleaner on a cotton bud or small paint brush , hope this helps ,its saved loads of my games

Help! My Sega-Mega CD won't work. The MegaDrive works just fine (I played a game on it just 5 minutes ago) but the Mega CD won't even start. I've set it all up, referred to the manual and reset it and done...

the fuse has probably gone in it, thats a common problem with the sega cd's, you will have to replace the fuse on it, try looking up "sega cd model 2 fuse repair" in google and there should be some info/video's on the net to help you ;) I only know because I have the same problem lol

Hi some new TV'S may not have the frequency of these old consoles i recommend purchasing a AV cable which is can be found at http://www.gameoz.com.au/store/sega-mega-drive/mega-drive-accessories/sega-mega-drive-1-av-cable.html

Ive got a black sega mega drive but cant seem to locate a channel.. am i doing something wrong with the wires

you need to have an old-ish tv...and you need to choose one channel, any one and tune it in...you need to keep going untill you either have a black screen or the game youve inserted..

TURN YOUR MEGADRIVE ON WHILE TUNING

if youve done that and you still dont have it it might be the wire

Just got a Sega Mega drive, connected to my plasma

Most old systems such as Mega Drive will come with an RF adaptor, which plugs into the back of the console and has a coaxial tip on the other end, to connect to the tv.

When you connect the coaxial end to the tv, you connect it to the round coax plug which is where you used to plug in your old cable tv hookup. It also might say Ant. or Antenna.

Turn on your megadrive and use your TVs input selector to change to either "antenna" or "tv" or "cable" input, or until you hit the input which displays your megadrive's signal.

Tip: use your TV's view options to change the input to a 4:3 or "not stretched" aspect ratio so that your old Fullscreen video games will not be stretched out wide on your new widescreen HDTV.

Good Luck!

I just aquired a sega megadrive 2 with all leads but no instructions. can you tell me how to set it up please? Michael

First plug the power plug into the mega drive and turn it on (there should be a red light showing that the megadrive is on)

Plug RF lead into the back of the mega drive and TV and make sure the switch is set at the megadrive side and not the ariel side, if you have a switch.

Now turn off mega drive, put a game into the slot and and then turn the console on.

Select a channel on your TV and tune it into the mega drive.

This should work.
