The best place to look for things like this is eBay. Just search for As-Is Sega Master System on eBay, and see what comes up ( I also just searched for sega master system, and found some cheap consoles that were in working order). Also, another option you might try is see if there were any "controller extensions" made for it. That might give you something to cannibalize to make your new port. Hope this has helped!

Bought a Sega Genesis on ebay. It displays the games correctly but will not respond to the controller. The controller has been tested to work with another system. What could be causing this?

Its the controller ports inside of the system that controlls the controllers to function is broken or loose then and needs to be resoldered. I had a problem with my sega after i resoldered the 2nd controller port it worked again then.

The down button on my Sega Master System controllers won't work when they are plugged into the first controller port (Fine on the second). I have already taken apart the system and tried to clean up...

Hey there.
In your case, there is only one real solution: get another controller. You will save both time and money, and you will know that you'll have a working controller. Chances are you will not ever be able to fix that problem, even with soldering.
You could start by browsing ebay:
http://video-games.shop.ebay.com/System-Accessories-/54968/i.html?rt=nc&Platform=Sega%2520Master%2520System&_nkw=sega%20controller&_catref=1&_dmpt=Video_Games_Accessories&_fln=1&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282
If you really want to try to spend some time repairing it, that video could help you understand the controller a lot more:

Game console having wire trouble connecting to controller?

Most likely the controller port is bad on your system and you need it repair or a replaced system. There are also 3 different licensed versions of sega genesis so each one is different to repair.

Check out ccgamingonline.com
They give you free estimates for your broken system.

BOX THINGY

the box is a RF switching box
the lead you require is a phono to ariel lead (megadrive, master system or any old computer will do)
or if you get an old video lead and cut of one end and wire a phono plug to it it will also work.
or you try ebay
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/_W0QQ_dmptZUKQ5fVideoGamesQ5fVideoGameAccessoriesQ5fVideoGameAccessoriesQ5fJN?_nkw=sega+rf++Master+System++&_sacat=0&_fromfsb=&_trksid=m270.l1313&_odkw=sega+rf&_osacat=0

a basic lead for £2.50
replacments upto £10
both work

Sega Master System Controller Port

sounds like the soldering has come loose a bit over the years this tends to happen if you want there is two options open it up and fix the soldering issue or send it in for repair.

I have a shop and it would be $15 plus return shipping costs to fix the unit.

honestly sounds like its the controller port either have to open it up and make sure everything is connect correctly around it or even blow some air into the ports to blow anything that might be blocking they come loose now and again over the years of use.

have you tryed it on the controller port 2 yet? if not try that and see if it works on that one.

Sega Master System Cartridge Issues

I found out what was wrong. The all of the solder connections where the cartridge slot pins meet the board were broken. I was able to verify that this was the issue by pressing the connections together while trying to boot up with a cartridge and it working. I will just need to get a fine tip for my soldering iron and some really small gauge solder.

Sega master system

You need an RF Switch. Any kind will do. Sega model 3035 came with your console. Sega model 1603 or Nintendo NES-003 will also work. The RCA plug goes in the back of the console and the lead that looks like cable tv goes on the tv. If your tv does not have the right connection you can purchase an a/v cable that will work.
