I dont know how to use the self timer - Canon PowerShot A530 Digital Camera

I don't know, I don't know. I don't know. Perhaps you could tell us what brand and what model camera you use? And perhaps you can tell since when it is acting strange? like after you dropped it, or after it went down in the swimming pool. Or perhaps just after leaving it alone for a few days or weeks. Or perhaps after you changed some settings?

In the shooting mode, press cursor-right (marked with a one-handed clock). Each press of the button cycles through the different self-timer modes. Start the self-timer by pressing the shutter release button.

Press the self-timer button (marked with a one-handed clock). Use up/down to select an option. Start the self-timer by pressing the shutter release button.

In the REC mode, press [MENU]. On the "REC" tab, select "Self-timer" and then press right. Use up/down to select the timer type and press [SET]. To start the self-timer, press the shutter release button.

Press the MENU button and down-arrow to "Self-timer."

Have you tried NOT setting the shots to 3.

From the menu, select Drive Mode (third item from the top) then one of the self-timer options. To start the self-timer, press the shutter release button.

Putting Yourself in the Picture The Self Timer creates a 10-second delay between the time you press the Shutter button and the time the picture is taken. 1 Place the camera on a flat surface or use a tripod. 2 In any Still mode, press the Self Timer button. The Self Timer icon appears in the status area. 3 Compose the scene. Then press the Shutter button half-way and hold to set the exposure and focus, then press the rest of the way down. Move so that you are in the scene. The Self Timer light blinks slowly for 8 seconds (then quickly for 2 seconds) before the picture is taken. The camera "clicks" when the picture is captured. To turn off the shutter sound, see page 64. The Self Timer turns off after you take the picture or if you change modes. To cancel the Self Timer before the picture is taken, press the Self Timer button. (The Self Timer setting remains active.) To turn off the Self Timer, press the Self Timer button twice.

Self-timer shooting:

This function lets you take pictures using the self-timer.
Fix the camera securely on a tripod for self-timer shooting. This function is useful for taking
pictures when you want to be included in the photograph.

1 Select [ON], and press Z.
2 Press the shutter button fully to
take the picture.
• Pressing the shutter button halfway
locks the focus and exposure.
• The self-timer lamp lights for
approximately 10 seconds, then starts
blinking. After blinking for approximately
2 seconds, the picture is taken.
• To stop shooting while in n mode,
press the shutter button fully again.
• To cancel the self-timer, press Z.
• The self-timer mode is automatically canceled after one shot.

Note:
• If sequential shooting is attempted in self-timer mode, the camera shoots 5
frames at most regardless of the setting.
