I have the dryer Model No. DV218AG or DV209AG, I think they are pretty much the same. The belt frayed and the spring popped off of the belt tensioner. I ordered a new belt and replaced it, but cannot figure out where the spring mounts to to provide proper tension. I have hooked it up where it appears to go (you can see the spring from the rear of the dryer), but it provides inadequate tension allowing the belt to slip on the motor pulley. If i put a little additional tension on the tensioner by hand it works. If anyone had a photograph or diagram of the spring location I would be forever greatly. Otherwise, I give up and will be calling in the repair guy.

SOURCE: Changing Serpentine Belt on '01 Impala LS (3.8L)

Can u turn the nut in the opposite direction that u have been trying? U need a lot of leverage to get enough tension off to remove the belt. If u have enough room, add a pipe to the end of your wrench, u will need a lot of room to move the tensioner enough. U might have better luck buying the wrench made for that purpose at a parts store. I think I paid about 25 a couple years ago, I couldn't fit a regular socket and wrench on the tensioner, it was a very tight space.

SOURCE: tension pulley for the Serpetine belt

The tensioner is the 3 1/2" pulley located between power steering pump and alternator down about 5" on front of engine. Does it have air conditioning?
If you need the diagram please post your email address and I will email it to you as I do not know how to post pictures on this.

SOURCE: change serpentine belt and tension pulley and idle pulley and

could be the alternator, water pump
take the belt and spin all the pulleys and listen for noise and make sure they turn smoothly
another trick is to take a can of wd40 or equivalent and spray the bearings 1 at a time till the noise goes away or quiets down

SOURCE: Replace belt tensioner pulley on 1994 buick skylark

You need to put a piece of wood underneath the oil pan and place a jack underneath the oil pan/motor, loosen the motor mounts that are next to the belts, then raise the motor enough to reveal the nuts/bolts for pulley...just dont raise the oil pan so high that you crush it or break something, only enough to be able to reach tension pulley...

SOURCE: samsung dv4006 dryer belt

Possible replacement belt quality problem for the Samsung DV4006 / DV4006J / DV4015J / DV665JW and the Maytag MDE2400AZW dryers:

The original belt for the Samsung DV4006 / DV4006J / DV4015J / DV665JW dryers is a Megadyne 1975 H7. The part number is DC66-00121A, but when ordered, a Dongil 7PH1975 belt may be shipped instead of the original Megadyne. The Maytag MDE2400AZW dryer uses the same belt. The part number is 35001010, but when ordered, a Dongil 7PH1975 belt may be shipped. It seems that the Dongil belts are inadequate for these dryers. They delaminate and may fail prematurely. Even new, they cause a thumping sound each time the seam goes over the motor pulley. Other than Megadyne, another good belt is the Hutchinson 1975H7. The appliance part number is 1258288107.

Where to get an original Megadyne 1975 H7 belt:

eBay member 'appliance-parts' in Colorado, USA has emailed me that their Samsung DC66-00121A belts are Megadyne. Website: http://appliancefactory.com Email address: [email protected]

eBay member 'ladydi1975' in Ohio, USA has emailed me that their Maytag 35001010 belts are Megadyne. eBay store: Discount Appliance Parts.

Where to get a Hutchinson 1975H7 belt:

eBay member: 'zodiac300_0' in Brighton, United Kingdom. I have ordered a 1975H7 belt from them and received a Hutchinson.

Other possible causes for belt failure:

--Motor pulley designed too small. The belt may be flexed beyond it's minimum rated radius.

--Excessive heat in the dryer due to lint in the vent line or vent line too long. The Dongil belt may be less heat resistant than the Megadyne.

--Worn drum bushing DC66-00062A.

--Metal burrs on the steel motor pulley. Deburr by inserting a small screwdriver in each groove while the motor is turning without the belt.

--Belt on the wrong track. The motor pulley has nine grooves and the belt has seven ribs. The belt must be in the middle. It's easy to place it one groove forward or backward by error.

--Small scratches on the drum where the belt contacts it. The scratches may be like small knives and damage the belt. Sand with a fine sandpaper.

--Idler pulley damaged or bearing worn.

How to replace the belt:

--Remove top cover.
--Remove vent panel (in back).
--Unclip door switch from front panel.
--Disconnect wire harness from door switch.
--Unscrew panel left of control console (from behind the panel).
--Unclip panel left of control console (from behind the panel).
--Unscrew control console.
--Unclip plastic panel on bottom, front
--Remove screws behind door. Remove door.
--Unscrew large front panel, remove.
--Inspect vent line for lint buildup, drum bushing (back of dryer) for wear, motor pulley for burrs and debris, drum for scratches, and idler pulley/bearing for damage.
--Vacuum all lint.
--Install belt around drum, idler pulley, and motor pulley. The ribbed side of the belt contacts the drum. The flat side of the belt contacts the idler pulley. Press on idler pulley to stretch the spring, and line up the seven belt ribs in the center of the nine motor pulley grooves.
--Reassemble.

if you rapped the belt around the pulley and it's not tight enough then you popped the spring off of the pulley, you'll have to pull the drum again so you can see where the spring connects to the pulley, here's the sears site, put your model number in,click on cabinet parts and you'll see number 15 tention spring, this has to be connected to the pulley arm.http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Amana-Parts/Dryer-Parts/Model-NGD7200TW10/1268/0151200/W0712024/00002?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

The drum stopped spinning on our Samsung DV218AG. Less than a year old. Suspect drum belt broke. Does the dryer have the belt in the rear or bottom? What type of belt is needed?

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Yes it does have a belt. I'd say your assessment is almost bang on, based on your description and my experience. I've seen this many, many times...though the belt usually doesn't break it just comes off. Very common for Samsung dryers for whatever reason.

**Unplug the unit before proceeding...safety first**...

The good news is if it's accessible from the back you can simply remove the small panel around the exhaust tube as shown here,

macmarkus_375.jpg

if it's not you'll need to go from the front...do-able just a little more involved, let me know.

Once in the back the belt should look like this when routed properly, with the "V" grooves towards the drum and motor pulley.

i.e.

Hope that moves you forward...or even better, to the finish line, lol.

Let me know what you find. If this is something you think is not within' your scope of expertise please call a pro.

I will try to help in any manner I can of course as well. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

I heard a loud pop but the belt is not broken there is a spring that I think goes to the pulley just laying on the bottom of the dryer it is a Samsung DV218AEB/XAA where does it go?

If you found the spring it means that you were under the dryer, so if you feel comfortable with DIY projects then look for your manual there will be an "exploded view" of your dryer. You will see where it goes. But I have never seen a spring pop off for no reason. Examine the spring closely and see if there are signs that it may have broken (some rough edges.) If it appears to be whole then try to re-seat the spring; careful as there is quite a bit of tension and, in all likelihood, you will have to do some "major surgery" to get the belt and pulley spring reseated. Take your time and use a phone camera to record your work to make replacement of parts easier.

Belt is slipping

Brand ? Most dryers have a idler pulley that puts tension on the belt. Is the belt stretched or frayed. The Idler is spring loaded is the spring attached ?

Drum not spinning

Pretty easy fix. start by popping the top
bfce1c6.jpg
Once you get that up then remove the front. The rear hatch gives access to the idler assembly, look in there to see the status of the belt before popping the top. The bumping could have been from a bad st of glides on front or a bad bearing on back. Impossible to tell till ya give it a look see.

Kitchenaid dryer

Yank the filter out the top.
remove the 2 phillips screws in that filter housing on the top of the machine so you can pop the spring clips and get the top up. Remove the front and get the drum out. Oil the wheels and idler and rerout the belt using this PIC.
