We have a Maytag side-by-side refrigerator (Model MSD2456GE, 23.6 volume) that has ice forming (water pooling?) on the bottom of the freezer...each evening, we clean out a thin layer, as it covers at least 1/2 of the bottom and we're concerned that it'll run onto the floor...can you recommend what may be clogged or what we should clean...my husband has cleaned/vacuumed coils, etc to clear any dirt/dust. Thank you.

Ice forming on the bottom of the freezer

Hello,

The ice is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water drining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing.By pulling the ref. from the wall there will be a tube behind teh service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.

I hope this helps,

Maytag side-by-side refrigerator Model # MSB2154GR: Ice is forming in the bottom of the freezer under the basket?

Hello, Thank You for using FixYa. I will be helping you today. The drain line is frozen.Remove the back wall in the freezer and remove the ice.You can either use boiling water or a hair dryer. The drain hole is in the center bottom.Be careful not to touch or poke the evaparator(big aluminum thing) You have to remove all the ice until you see the hole keep pouring boiling water until the water runs down the drain. It is a easy job just takes some time.

My Maytag side-by-side refrigerator/freezer Leak

There is a pan and drain hose under the freezer coil that is there to catch any water when the freezer goes into defrost. I feel strongly that is where you will find your leak.
I hope this helps.

WATER LEAKING OUT OF FREEZER DOOR

The defrost drain hole in the bottom of the freezer has frozen over. Turn off the fridge. Remove the shelves and bins. Remove the rear panel of the freezer. You will see ice on the bottom rear of the freezer. Use a hair dryer to melt the ice, especially in the drain hole once you get through the surface ice. Once the drain hole is clear, pour a cup of hot water through the drain hole followed by 1/4 cup bleach. Re-install your parts and turn the fridge back on.

Water leaking from freezer compartment and ice maker not working properly

I figured it out. When the water filter gets old and plugged up, not enough water flows into the cube trays. You can fix the ice problem by replacing or just removing the filter. (The filter really isn't necessary unless your water comes from a well or some other undesirable source.) The filters cost about $40 from Sears, but you can find them on ebay for under $30 including shipping.
