Pto and power shift does not work well and is there a screen or strainer inline

I don't know but I would guess it could be for a differential lock or to engage the PTO (power take-off).

check your wires on the pto itself, make sure there not pulled out the unit or cut in any form, try wiggling the wires under the pto switch to see if its a loose connection or just buy a pto switch (its the nob you pull for the pto) which is most common for going bad and the cheapest part to check to see if its that, if not your looking at a new 400.00 (or so) PTO, hope its not that

Do you have the old one? If you do give it a bench test..attach any 12 volt power to the lead if it is ok it will click if you do not, test the new one if it test ok..then you most like have one of the safety switches that are built into the wiring that prevents power to the pto need to find them and TEMPORARILY BYPASS THEM if it clicks then go back and replace them one at a time until you find the bad one and replace it.. Also check the colors of the pto connection and follow it back..you may have an inline fuse.blown....good luck

It may well have burnt out the pto switch itself if there was that much power draw.

A 94 Virago has both...the fuel petcock on the tank has strainer that sits inside the tank, you remove the petcock and the strainer is attached.
There is also an replaceable inline filter on the suction side of the fuel pump.

Unplug the switches one at a time and try too start the machine.when it starts the switch you unplugged will be the bad one.

A 2001 Mazda Protege (actually, all models from 1999-2003 including the DX, LX, ES, Mazdaspeed, and Protege 5) does not have an inline fuel filter. The only fuel filter it has is a "strainer" or a "screen", which looks like a nylon mesh "sock". This strainer is connected to the fuel pump, located in the gas tank. Although this fuel strainer does not require periodic replacement, it is recommended that it be changed if you are replacing the fuel pump.

The pto brake is either worn out or you have no presure to it when the pto is turned off,most likely the pto brake is worn out.
