Hello, I recently purchased a new laptop (Sony Vaio, E-Series, VPCEB36FA). Whenever I try to connect this laptop to my home wireless network provided by a 6200 ADSL2+ 4-Port Zhone Router, it never gets to the internet although it goes online normally if I use a network (Ethernet) cable to connect the router to the laptop. It asks me for the network security key, which I actually forgot. And whenever I try to log on to the router webpage to see the security key I get another window asking for my username and password which I either have forgotten or I do not know them at first place. Please help me with this issue as I need to get this laptop into my home wireless netweork ASAP. Note that I have another HP laptop that gets into the wireless network without any problems. Thanks in advance

Seems you forgot everything.
1. You could try the default username : admin with password : admin or username : user with password : user
2. if those not working you can reset your ADSL modem to the factory reset by push the "reset to default button" in the back panel, this will bring your modem to the very first time condition. Use the method 1 to login.

cheers

Where is the wireless network switch on my sony vaio fxa49 noteook

Based upon this spec sheet, your all-in-one is one short. It does not come with built-in wireless networking. Thar may explain the lack of buttonology for it. There is an OPTIONAL wireless LAN card than can be purchased and installed. See spec sheet below.

Can you try the laptop somewhere else? Try Mcdonalds or Starbucks, work, school, etc. Does it see the connection there? Does it connect ok there. Break your troubleshooting it into small steps. If it works else where then something is set wrong in your wireless at home. If it doesn't work else where then keep troubleshooting the laptop itself. When your watching the SSID show up then disappear are all wireless SSID also doing the same. Can you see neighbor and just watch if they drop in and out? Can you confirm your router is the same network speed. B,G or N. Make sure its a on a speed the laptop can do. Can you change your router and disable the security for a little while and see if that effects how the laptop connects. IF it works without security then check your security settings, Maybe the router is set to an old or newer type if security, Try different one's if it works correctly with security off. Can you login into your router and look at the logs its recording. Maybe there's a clue in it. Re-confirm the gateway and subnet are correct. I don't know if your XP, vista or 7, but open a command window or Dos prompt and type "ipconfig /a" It will list all the network information. Also type "ipconfig ?" For a list of options to use with the command. You may need to a release or renew the connection.

So, your "wireless" works at home,
but your "wireless" does *NOT* work anywhere else?

That's not a "hardware" problem -- you just have to open the "Network Connections" folder, and "Find Available Networks", select one, and connect to it.

Find somebody with a laptop at a "hot-spot", buy them a coffee, and ask them to help setup your computer.

Do you have your router secured with a WEP key? if so, have you enter that key on your computer?

Sony Vaio laptop unable to detect wireless access point

CompuLayne: Hello bluebells953

Netgear is quite tricky as is with all other routers, but I don't think the router is your problem. Try to do the following.

1) Turn off Vaio laptop
2) unplug router
3) unplug modem
4) plug back in modem - wait for it to boot up
5) plug back in router - wait for it to boot up
6) turn back on the Vaio - log in and see if it sees the SID. If it isn't broadcasting, you might have to enter it in manually and select connect to non broadcasting network

Your connection required more than a password. You need to configure your connection such as WEP, WPA or other security capabilities. To do this you need to know the wireless routers configuration and match it.

Cannot connect new laptop to internet

Do you have a router set up? If not two things you can do:

1) Buy and setup wireless router wired with desktop and wireless with laptop.

OR

2) Remove network cable from back of Desktop and plug into laptop each time you want to use Internet. Cheaper option but more hassle to switch back and forth.

Wireless network connection

you may need to run the network wizard, as your sony may not be set up as using a gateway type connection and may be instructing other pcs to connect via itself and not on the network.
