Hi, I have a Sony Vaio PCG-K25 model. I use Windows XP. My problem is: the laptop is simply unable to detect the Netgear wireless router which is located less than 3 feet away. I have another laptop, an IBM Lenovo T60, and this is able to connect to the router just fine, so this must be a router problem. The wireless button is swtiched on. I am using Windows to configure the wireless network connection. The wireless network driver is up to date. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times, so that may not be the problem. Please help.

Netgear is quite tricky as is with all other routers, but I don't think the router is your problem. Try to do the following.
1) Turn off Vaio laptop
2) unplug router
3) unplug modem
4) plug back in modem - wait for it to boot up
5) plug back in router - wait for it to boot up
6) turn back on the Vaio - log in and see if it sees the SID. If it isn't broadcasting, you might have to enter it in manually and select connect to non broadcasting network
