These are notorious for this problem. It is cause by the coffee grinder portion wearing out and sticking. After a while the grinder will fuse to the basket. It is cause by the spinning of the grinder and wear to the grinder shaft or coffee grounds getting into the shaft and causing wear. Either wan the only fix is a new basket.Send Cuisinart an email to complain and they may give you a new one free. I went through 3 before I gave up on the grind and brew model.
I took everything off the maker but the grinder. Turned on its back, poured liquid dish soap into the small square where the fitting shows. Ran warm water through until clear. Then ran cold water. Then used head of a screw driver to gently pry the basket loose while lifting out from the other side. Don't know whether the washing did it or the screwdriver but I think I'll add a drop of oil to the post in case that will make it easier to remove next time.
Well I hope that this works. I have done similar fixes and it will work for a few weeks. Eventually the shaft wear will cause it to stop functioning. I like your idea about trying some oil, however be sure to use a food grade oil or something like spray PAM. Who knows, that might keep it going for a long time if you oil it after each cleaning.

I purchased a new basket from Cuisinart as advised and it got stuck on the first use. Poor design is the issue.....

Putting the unit in the freezer worked-the grinder unit came right out. I then sanded down the grinder shaft and the unit went back on much more easy.
