Usually there is not a switch to turn wifi on a modem
you need a wireless device to try to access its wireless network
you need to plug a wired computer into your modem and type in default ip address
192.168.x.x
they are slightly different for each brand
EI: linksys 192.168.1.1
Dlink 192.168.0.1
telus: 192.168.1.254
so go into your router settings and you should have a wifi tab somewere in there
you can set your SSID (what your wifi will be called) for something you will remember
and maybe disable security untill you get your wifi device connected
then add what ever security you like
when you try to access your wifi network witha wifi device you wifi light will come on your modem
