Viewing the screen in bright sun is a problem for 99% of point and shoot cameras. 1% still have an optical viewfinder you can look through to frame the picture. Also, looking at the screen with polarized sun glasses makes the problem worse. There's no solution except to upgrade to a DSLR camera.

Open the back of the camera. **** the camera as if you were advancing the film. While looking in the back, push the shutter release, like you were taking a photo.
You see the mirror flip up and glimpse a flash of light as the camera cycles.
If you do not see the mirror flip up and return, the camera needs serious repair..
As for the LED Display, put some new batteries in it.

Iris or Aperture not working its all time off so that you can not see through camera.You need to change Iris cable.

Did you accidentally press the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera? This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder to take pictures. To turn the screen back on, just press this button one more time.

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. Went to canon website and found they had a problem with the ccd which causes these problems and will fix it for free. Apparently there are lots of models with this faulty component.

The mirror is what reflects what the lens is seeing up to the viewfinder, and if it is sticking in the up position that is why you can't see anything sometimes thru the viewfinder. I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician, and it's possible that it just needs a good cleaning.

Most likely it is a mechanical failure such that the reflection mirror does not return back to its normal position, then blocking any light to the viewfinder.

Check this by unmounting the lens. If so, you may have to consider a repair operation.
