Need help troubleshooting problem with my daughter's new NIKON Coolpix S3000 dig. camera.
She purchased this brand new 3 weeks ago and took on her study abroad trip...currently in Brazil, the camera has this problem: "i turned it on to use it today and the screen just has lines through it like black, white, yellow colors and you can't see what you're taking a picture off. not sure what it's from but if they have any hints that would be helpful." She is devastated right now as this device is her life right now as she is traveling abroad. Please recommend a fix/troubleshooting she can try. I cannot mail a new one to her due to customs regulations outside the US. thank you. Maria

Let's see...Brazil...heat...humidity...probably affected the sensor. The camera needs either service or replacement. Some cameras cannot handle the heat and humidity.

Have you updated the firmware? According to Nikon, when the Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL10 is inserted in the camera and charged, charging sometimes did not stop after the designated amount of time had passed. Usually, you'll receive the message "Battery Exhausted" if this is the problem... but you could also have a completely dead camera as well.

I work at an authorized Nikon service center and I don't see many S3000 models coming in for repairs. Most camera point and shoot models that have an extending lens are subject to lens errors. Most of those errors are also a result of shock or impact and not manufacturer's defect. Hope this helps!

Sounds like you somehow put the camera in "airplane" mode which keeps the camera from interfering with the electronics on an airplane. Change the mode.
