If you purchased the onetime or Lifetime map update just run Garmin Express, otherwise you may need to purchase those or plan on replacing the Garmin Device. If something happened to the original maps that were on there and you are too cheap to buy new ones, there is no way to load back on those old map files
Important note about maps: Due to our high volume of sales, every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. The current map provides data through April 1, 2007. If you purchased a Garmin GPS before April 1, 2007, you can purchase a map update on SD card. We will notify customers who purchase from Amazon.com via e-mail whenever new map updates become available.
If you purchased genuine updates or a new map from garmin You would have received an email with the unlock code. Contact Garmin for a reissue of this data at the site you downloaded it from.
If you did not make a purchase and just managed to get a dowenload you will have lost your prevgiously installed maps and still have to make a payment to unlock the new maps.
The GPSMap 295 can only have one region at a time - North America, South America, etc. You can purchase an updated database specifically for Africa and the Middle East - it's about $50 USD. It will erase whatever region you have in there right now (you can't store Africa/MidEast with America, for instance. It's one at a time.)
The Garmin Website:
http://shop.garmin.com/aviation/databases/
lets you download new Jeppesen databases to your GPSMap 295. Select your model, then select which region you want.
***Before you buy:*** You'll have to have the data cable to connect it to your computer. Without that, you will have no way to update the maps and database.
If you do have the data cable, the process is very easy - just follow the instructions carefully, and make sure all the numbers they ask you for are correct. I just did mine today. Good luck!
If the map is on a SD card, just plug it into the SD slot on the side of your Nuvi with the power OFF. Then turn on your Nuvi and at the main menu, press the wrench symbol, then the map icon and then "map info". Uncheck your old 2008 map and check your 2009 map and you should be ready to go.
The other solution was to send it to Fine Digital but they closed their doors in the US so they no longer support us customers. Because of this I made a DVD with map data I purchased from them before they closed and I added much better instructions; this DVD updates the firmware in the unit and loads the last map data issued to the SD card. you would need a PC with a DVD drive and SD card reader to use it. you can find these DVDs on ebay for $18 which basically covers my costs only.
The new maps will be unlocked to your GPS using the code Garmin supplied you.
You will have to add these maps to a second SD card if your present card is full, or else purchase a larger card. Since all the Mapsource NT 2008 Europe maps are 1,395MB in size, you'll need to purchase at least a 2GB SD card.
