Hello
Check the battery voltage. It should come below 10.1 VDC. If proper voltage, the fault you describe here can occur.

Hello,

Going back to the security location will unlock the unit but in order to reset the pin code, the original pin code must be input.
To unlock the unit, it must be sent back to Garmin.

Hi lois_andr438,

These yellow bricks you see are there to tell you the signal strength. Lots of things influence signal strength, like tunnels, high buildings, no line of sight to satelites or little line of sight. You may have had settings on, that did not show them previously. The higher, the better (More bricks = good)

Nothing to fear, it is normal.

Kind Regards

The battery terminals are fairly easy to find which goes where. The PCB itself should have a + or - symbol depicting that black solders to (-) and red solders to (+)

Welcome to Fixya

The "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" message may appear on your Garmin nuvi Streetpilot for the following reasons:
  • The Streetpilot is missing it's unlock code
  • The maps on the Streetpilot have been disabled
1. To determine the cause of the message, touch the screen until the message "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" disappears.
  • If you see a "Can't Unlock Maps" message following this, remove any microSD / SD cards in the device and follow the instructions below for Retrieving your unlock codes followed by the instructions for Creating an unlock file
  • If you do not get the Can't Unlock Maps message then skip to Paragraph 5. below Selecting Maps on your Garmin Streetpilot
2. To retrieve unlock codes you need to have your satnav registered with garmin. If you haven't already registered it, connect the satnav to your computer and go to www.garmin.com. Select your country from the dropdown list and click "Register your garmin device". Follow the prompts. You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe. You'll need them anytime you need to update your maps or solve problems in the future.

  • Log into your myGarmin account
  • Select Manage Maps
  • Select Details

  • The unlock code is located under the Installed Maps.

  • Type the unlock code that is listed in the Manage Maps section of your myGarmin account in all upper-case letters with no spaces
  • Select File
  • Select Save As
  • Change the Save As Type to All Files
  • Type gmapprom.unl in all lower-case letters for the File name
  • Select Save
  • Close the Notepad window
  • Delete the New Text Document file

Hello,

Before writing the unit off as dead I would try obtaining a new 12v power cable and maybe try your cable in someone else vehicle, often the 12v power in your car can short not providing power to the GPS.

Hope this helps!

The solution to this problem for garmin nuvi satnavs is at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6197735-no_detailed_maps_found_support_routing
While your satnav is not a nuvi I would expect that the solution would be the same since they're both made by Garmin.

There's information on how to solve this problem for garmin nuvi satnavs at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6197735-no_detailed_maps_found_support_routing
Some of the menus are probably different on the streetpilot but the procedure should be the same.

Details on unlocking maps for Garmin Nuvi satnavs are at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6197735-no_detailed_maps_found_support_routing
StreetPilot satnavs probably use the same method. You may need to skip to paragraph 2 and start from there.

Unfortunately, you don't have any quick and easy options, the security wouldn't be much use if it were otherwise. Garmin Lock has been activated and can only be disabled by either entering the correct PIN or by turning the unit on at its "security location". This will be the place where the PIN was originally set. Garmin will not assist you as you are not the original purchaser.

Your only fix is to contact your grandparents to ask if they remember where they set up the PIN number. As the unit strongly advises that the security location is not the owner's home address this may not be straightforward. If they can remember, then post the unit back to them so that they can take it to the security location and disable Garmin Lock. If this is not possible, then your grandparents should contact Garmin who will assist them if they have proof of purchase or have previously registered the unit with Garmin.
