Hi Hibbs8829
Generally fuses are located on the PCB attached to the power transformer terminations. In some instances the only primary fuse may be a thermal fuse located inside the power transformer that may have failed. This one you cannot see from the outside. They are replaceable, but you will need to get into the transformer somewhat to sort it out. Other than that, there are often fusible resistors and circuit protector devices on the PCB. These can be a little difficult to find if you don't know what you are looking for. Good luck

Philips FR-968 Stereo Receiver. How do I fix my Philips radio receiver that shows standby with no sounds or display?

Question edited for clarity.

It you have standby, that shows you have power. The only things you can try is a Power Reset, disconnect from the mains, for 10 minutes. Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds and then plug back in.

If you are using a remote, check the batteries in the remote. You can also do the check to make sure the remote is putting out a signal. Aim the remote at the front facing selfie of a smartphone. You should see a flash.

No one else has reported your issue.

Fr 965 won't work with fiber optic

Check for dust blocking the sockets on the fibre optic ports.

Try a different optical cable.

If it's not working then maybe the old receiver is past it.

I think my receiver may have a blown fuse, when plugged in and I try to turn it on the red power light comes on and immediately shuts off, could this be a fuse problem?? If so how can i fix this

If your main power fuse was blown, there would be no power at all. You may be looking at a blown preamp or an overheated component inside your receiver. You may want to take it in to a service technician. Have you tried to contact Philips customer service?

I have Phillips home theater system model FR 965. When I turn the power on it powers up for a few seconds and then shuts off. I have done some searching online and found advice saying that it may just be...

It's not a fuse. Fuses don't self-heal allowing another try.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as a possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.

Does the phlips fr 965 have a fuse

If the unit was purchased in the UK, then yes it will have a fuse witht the following specs:
BS1362 5 amp, A.S.T.A or BSI approved type

Otherwise, I would suggest that you bring it to an authorized repair shop.
