VW Passat transmission

After having my passat towed and replacing the head and cams the trans quit working. Motor runs fine but will not move in gear, forward or reverse. I have found a used trans from a 2000 VW passat with same engine but the three letter code on the ID plate is different. Will this trans work in my 2001 passat?

In winter months the car will start in limp mode in the morning. The lights cluster on the gears all light up together. I then put car in reverse and the whole car jumps as if the transmission is 'coming unstuck'. Then I turn engine off and back on and everything fine. Smooth trans' otherwise. This problem dissapears over summer and returns every winter's morning.

I got same problem now. Did you find a Solution or figure out why transmission will not engage after being towed. Same engine works great just won't shift in to gear and go.

Thanks john

Transmission noise

has a brake release that allows you to change the gears. could be linkage. trans can be tricky. VW are expensive and if passat is like the jetta, these trans are one time uses. take gear lube and not to be refilled. may need to replace it.

2001 vw passat not shifting out of first

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems.

I have a 2002 VW Passat 1.9TDi 130Tiptronic. Gears stopped

always get a second opinion from an accredited professional a transmission shop that works on your make of vehicle
may be a simple tcm /pcm or other electronic control module
To have the necessity to replace the box , the water would have had to get into the transmission or the mechanical/electronic sections

Problems with a VW Passat 1998

It sound like your transmission in safe mode. meening it will stay in one gear tell you repair it(3 gear) thats why it moves very slow. you need inside repair . it could be the shiffting sensor or overhaul for the transmission.

I have a VW passat estate on a 51 plate, when the engine is cold the gear change is fine yet the further I go the harder it is to change gear

I experience the same problem in my '03 passat TDI130 5dr. Gearchange when hot became increasingly baulky.

VW Checked this out, linkages, clutch hydraulics etc were fine.

Solution was to have the Gearbox Oil changed. This cost about £65 and was using VW052 transmission fluid.
