Try feeding the monitor with sound source such as MP3 player to see if you can get the sound or not, the sound system in the monitor is nothing more than Powered PC speakers mounted inside the monitor, no driver required to make the sound to work.
If it is the amp problem inside, you will be better off spending money on a good set of Powered speakers system that will have 100 times better sound quality than the monitor built-in speakers.
