I purchased this projector a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly at first, then after a few hours it developed vertical banding that got worse the longer it was on. It would still look good when I would turn it on cold, but then the bands would appear and get worse. Now it has bands when I turn it on and ghosting to the left of the images about two bands over, it looks like the blue shifted to the left about two bands, because now there is a blue band permanently on the right edge. The bands change color depending on the background and are about an inch wide and symetrical. The filter is clean and I cleaned the dust out of it. What can it be?

SOURCE: Image blurry at edges

my dear friend, it appears that you must have opened the 3 lcd screws that are not supposed to be touched, if so then just forget reassembling the same as the convergence would be lost & cannot be manually done
another thing are the polarisers.if excessive dust had accumulated & if you used wrong technique in cleaning then the coating would have come off & you have lost everything , just change the entire lcd block.this costs a bomb.beter to buy a new projector

SOURCE: Wide vertical bands of color through the viewing area. The sound is fine

One of your "X" buffer boards is defective. In Panasonic plasma tv's they are located at the bootom of the set and connect directly to the plasma diplay panel via a thin ribbon cable. The board you want to replace will be directly in line with the discolored vertival line in the picture. The part number is on the circuit board and usualy starts with "tnp..." or "txp..."

SOURCE: black vertical band on left side

There is a good chance that the plasma panle may have become faulty, but another cause of this is a faulty X-SUS Printed Circuit Board or a Y-SUS Pinted Circuit Board, they are labelled which is which on the Circuit Board themselves. Replacing both of these may solve the problem. Good Luck.

SOURCE: Can I clean the LCD Panels on a Panasonic

I the green banding is well defined with sharp edges then it's most likely an electronics problem.
If it's a blurry banding then it may be degradation of the filters. Cleaning the LCD panels is relatively easy when the top cover is taken off, and the main processor board removed. However great care is needed to ensure no connectors or cables are broken, and are replaced properly during reassembly.

XBR 4 vertical black band, ghosting/smearing, getting worse.

Hi, I have a similar issue which is progressively getting worse. My TV is on a sliding mount, and interestingly enough, sometimes I can "jilt" it by hitting it and it clears. This seems to me to be a connector problem, where heat (thermal expansions, electrical resistances) can introduce degrading signal. Now if I could find a manual on how to take this damn thing apart.......Certainly does't solve the warranty issue, but at least gives a reason for one to kick their TV.

Your lamp is going out. You can buy a replacement lamp for about $300. Just do a search for the specific model + lamp & buy one. It is very easy to replace. Make sure you reset the lamp timer on the menu after replacement.
