Sanyo PLV-Z4 projects blank vertical banded image on start-up (sometimes white, green or blue). I have to power cycle the projector 6-10 times to get an actual image from source. When the blank image appears, I cannot use the projector remote to pull up the settings menu. I've tested multiple types of connectors (HDMI, component, VGA, etc) and sources (DVD, Cable and computer). RGB panels and air filter have all been recently cleaned with no apparent effect I used compressed air to clean out project - - no effect. I've left the projector on for awhile to see if it was a thermal issue and this did not help. There are no additional lights indicating bulb change required (600 hours on bulb currently) or malfunction. Unit is used in home theatre and receives 3-4 hours/week of use.

I had the exact same problem with my z3, Turnes out it was the blue filter.
I used the full service manual, and managed to fix mine using the diagrams, and troubleshooting section.
You can get the full service manual here.

I have the same unit (2 of them actually.) I have spent a lot of time on this very issue. The problem is that although the unit is "supposed" to be HDCP (digital copy protection) compatible, it is not fully. I've found that with some DVD players it will work for a minute or two and then go black, and with others, it will flash on and off, and with some it will never do anything but black. I have only found 2 ways around this. 1 is to use a computer (which does not use the HDCP) windows Vista/windows7 might have the same problems, but XP/2000/Linux work perfectly. The other solution that worked was to use a Playstation3 which seems to work perfectly with it playing DVDs and BlueRays.

The power light blinks after power cycling as it is supposed to do. No other lights are active.
