My tomtom suddenly started talking to me in Finnish or some other language, and I cont get it back onto English! How do I do this???

Which Operation System are you running?
If it's Windows 7 or 8 you can simply go to the Windows Updates and select under "unimportant" Updates your desired Language. It should then download and install the selected language.

So you've got that brand new shiny TomTom, turned it on, and .... OOPS! ... somehow you've selected the wrong language. Suddenly the entire interface is (literally) in some foreign language and you can't figure out how to get back to English. This has happened to quite a few people recently, so here is a short tutorial on how to get back to US English.TomTom Main MenuIf the device is currently turned on and you are anywhere but the primary map/driving view, it might be helpful to turn the device off. Then you can turn it back on to get yourself to the map/driving view. Now click anywhere on the map to take you to the Main Menu. To change the language on your TomTom device, do the following:

1. Tap the screen to bring up the Main Menu.

First of all the language was Finnish and not German. I managed to get a translation from Finnish to english for the word  kieli (Language).  Then i went to the system menu and selected kieli, then englanninkieli then pressed enter, this changed the language to english. I did not have to do a factory reset. Thank you for your trouble.

JUST KEEP LOOKING IN THIS SECTION AND YOULL SEE LANGUAGE AND GO TO SETTINGS FOR MILEAS ETC

You find Change Language from the Preferences menu from the main menu. You may need to switch on Show All Menu Options in order to see it. Again, this is from the Preferences menu.
