Sony Vaio VGN-FE770G Weak Hinge

Google search "VAIO VGN-FE770G" and "webcam driver" and (Windows version). Then install the driver. Don't be surprised if you have upgraded Windows and now can't find a driver for the upgraded Windows. Laptop manufacturers don't always release new drivers. They prefer to sell new laptops.

As the hinge is what binds the display assembly to the laptop itself, you will need to remove the display assembly in order to replace the hinge. However, if you are only replacing the hinge cover, then you don't have to remove the display assembly.

There are only Vista drivers, try to install them under compatability mode

This looks like the system is not able to sustain itself on the battery power. I have a doubt here. Is it a new or an old laptop. Either Case we have to suspect the battery charging and battery condition. One another reason could be that the battery contact is not good. But this could be of the least chance as the manufacturing of such devices would be perfect in all standards. Lets check the battery power first.

A sony Vaio never operates if the battery is not detected or the battery is not charging, while the system is up and running, you can see a small picture of the battery in the system tray which is at the right bottom corner of the screen. Run your mouse over the same and you will find a tooltiptext message and you can see if the battery is charging or not. If not, your hardware has a problem. If its charging but the battery charge is not increasing, then you have a battery problem. If its a battery problem and that the system is under warranty, you can well get a replacement for free. What you need is a copy of your service manual. This has the details on repairing , disassemble and full instructions to do so.

i dont have any pictures but the steps are outlined as follows.

1.) remove laptop hinges cover (the plastic thing that covers the hinges between the computer and the screen, the screen lifts on it).
2.) remove the screw hiders ( small circular plugs covering the screws holding the shield over the display unit)
3.) unscrew and unjack display screen.
.4) replace screen
5.) screw screen in place, replace lid, screw in place, replace screw plugs, replace hinge covers.

Thats it in a nut shell.

My hinge broke on my Sony VAIO and the solution I found was to purchase the Service Manual for the laptop then take the laptop apart and find out which part number the hinge was. Then purchase the hinge directly from USA, which took 1 week to come through and mended the laptop myself.

Sony are doing this to everyone who has problems with the hinges of the laptops as they state the guarantee covers everything EXCEPT the hinges. If you can get proof from a pc repair shop that the hinges are a design flaw then Sony will repair it free of charge, but they will still request a Diagnostic fee which will be refunded if the problem you described turns out to be true.

So many people get confused, with Sonys Model And Make Numbers.
Theres usually 1 located Underneath The Base of the Laptop, And 1 On the lower right/Hand/Side Of The Screen Or hinge Cover. ( Differs On Newer models )
The Number on the Screen/Hinge Is usually the Actual Number to search Drivers/Parts et,c For.
