You need to check and see if the plastic flapper on the damper vent door has frozen open and broken, you need to remove all the air flow parts to check this physically, you can run the diagnostics, and hear the damper motor run,but if the door is broken and stuck open you cant see this without removing the plastic grill covers and all the plastic parts from in front of it,even where the light bulbs are located in the roof of the refrigerator,if this isnt it,then you may have bad thermistors in the side of the refrigerators walls, the diagnostics will tell you this in a pass/fail test,g.e. has had a problem with these damper doors though in the past
Please get your thermostat switch checked up. The way you have described your problem is a clear cut case of it. It is stuck on one point. Even though you are trying to set new temperature it does not respond. Call a technician and check it up. Better solution is to get it changed with a new one.
I am not in a position to tell you how much it will cost since I do not know which country you are residing. I can only advise you to go online to GE web site and order the part there OR find a service provider near your township. Get in touch with them. I am certain they will help you out. Do not do it yourself unless you are a refrigerator technician your self.

the solution you have suggested to check the plastic flapper on the vent door on the damper assembly which is located on the top portion of refrigerator? so it is necessary to remove the top lights assembly and then all the plastic cover and to see it, Is this right? ( it is nothing to do with the lower portion of "Customer Cool" assembly. there is also a damper assembly with a fan inside) please advise. Thanks.
please advise the location of the thermostat switch and the procedure to replace it. I had the diagram and parts identical number. or the best solution is to call a qualified serviceman to do it, any idea an appoximate cost? Thanks.
good diagnosis, it is the damper vent door broken. unfortunately you have to purchase the whole assembly for $93.00. I used Super Glue to fix it. hopefully it can hold on for a while. thanks.
it did pinpoint the problem with my GE profile refrigerator. after repaired flapper, it works fine. thanks for your expertise. (instead to buying the whole damper assembly for over $93.00, I just super glued the broken part.)
