A 1996 Mazda MX6 I'm considering purchasing used from a private seller has a tranny that slips noticeably between second and third gear... I'm considering buying it nonetheless simply because I'm desperately in need of transportation to and from work. I will soon be living roughly 20 miles from my work, however; the seller is asking 600. Is this problem minor and should I buy it anyway? Everything else on the car seems in good working condition.

Hold your breath, cross your fingers, click your heels three times and hope you it isn't red. Red is bad luck.

SOURCE: 1993 mazda mx6 transmission is not slipping, but will not shift into higher gears. Will run at high RPM's and not shift up. Any suggestions on what it might be.. Mechanical, electrical, fluid change,

sounds like a shift solenoid in the trans.

SOURCE: Transmission does not engage into reverse sometimes.

Sounds like filter and fluid change would be in order. If it does finally go into reverse that would be my best guess. Hope this helps and have a great day.

SOURCE: would you say suzuki forenza 06 is a good car to buy?

They have been doing well and there problems are fewer than most. Sounds like you have a pretty good car. Have those trouble codes checked and repaired though so it does'nt cause problems down the road. Good luck.

SOURCE: tranny struggles to shift to 2nd gear on fast take

you should have this scanned at a at good transmission shop . its can be tough situation to solve these issues when concerning trasmission issues. even tougher when you cant afford mechanical issues even worse transmission issues like differentals ,shift solenoids ,pressure solenoids ,etc. i just noticed rereading your situation you dont mention any trouble with 3rd or 4th gear i assume no problems 3or4th gear and take off in 1 st i assume is no issue either. just to let you know w/transmissions there can be simular issues with different solutions, couple of things first check for a air modulator valve, driver side between transmission and radiator it will have vacuum line on it going to your intake make sure all the way connected or need replaced. also right below your modultor is a transmission mount have someone help you for this. have someone put the car in drive hold brake firm and give it gas see if the trans mount is sloppy or broke if it is fast acceleration would cause your shifting problem 4 sure esp going to 2nd gear. tras mount $65 modulator $50 . 1 nut holds air mod. on easy do it your self fix. dont forget o ring if replace the air mod. . cheaper then $1800 to $2200 good luck hope this helps you..

Hello,
If you will follow the RED battery cable to the other end, it ends at the starter.

I hope this was helpful, if so, please consider taking a second to click on YES beside the question, " was this helpful?" 2 thumbs up is a failing grade.
Thanks, Donnie

At 65 mph my Mazda Protege LX, manual transmission, slipped from fifth to third gear, causing the car to spin into the ditch. Driving slowly home, (with me following closely behind) the car slipped from...

it sound like there is a problem with the synchronizers and or the gears them selves. either way you will need to have the trans rebuilt before you can not put it into any gear.

Transmission on 1995 Buick Century, slipping badly

Sir I would first change my filter. When you do you should be able to acertain if anything is wrong by what yuo find in your pan. I think your clutchs are probably bad, but with out being able to scan it I don't have any other ideas. I have been lucky a couple of time before and changing the filter solved my problem. Your car is in limp mode generally you have reverse and second gear. 1st gear and reverse use the same clutches, so I am wondering if maybe you have second gear only!

sounds like you need a tranny, or perhaps check the modulator, pull the the vacuum line off of it, if tranny fluid comes out then, the diaphragm is split.
